What happened to my shaders?

I was playing some SF last night. All is well...

I log into a server, and imidiately start getting horrible fps. I run a x1900xt, amd X2, raptor drives in raid0.../etc /etc. I have a nice computer.

Usually my framerate is 80-99fps. It suddenly drops to an average of 40fps.

I quit the game... log back in and start to load the same map on the same server and it says "optimizing shaders." I say "wtf"??? I Didn't change any video options at all.

I go check my C:\Documents and Settings\gregd\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods directory and see BF2 and XPACK. BF2 has one set in there, and xpack is empty. There was always crap in XPACK before, but now it magically vanished.

So I reinstalled all of bf2. Mods/patches/game/etc ... everything.

Still no xpack directory where there was one, still ****ty fps in both BF2 and SF. ... and this time the xpack directory is gone all together.

Yet I can launch HL2 and run video stress test with similar settings and get an average of 97fps... which is what HL2 always ran at. So, whatever is happening is BF2 specific.

I can't wait for another game that is NOT made by EA/DICE to come out that is fun to play.

yea i think i get that thing where it optimizes ur shaders when u havent changed ur settings again and it makes me nervous

Still don't understand why the directory structure was changed and will not return... even after two full re-installs.

Something doesn't seem right about this...

Same thing happen today, Like my GFX Settings Just turned on Low by itself.. Dumb game.. *kicks BF2 CD*

Last time I completely re-installed the game the optimized shaders message came up twice. Once when I loaded a vanilla vf2 map and 2nd time when I loaded a Special Forces map and xpack had stuff in it afterwards.

Doesn't matter what I load... still no shaders where they are suppose to be.

lol!!!! play sf and when u go to a server it will say: optimizing shaders... load the map,play normal.. then there will be a folder in xpack/cache

B)Burn DICE
C)Piss over EA and DICE
D)face its a comming problem with x1900XT(X) and 7900 GT(X) series
E) All of the above (pls choose this one, pls pls pls)

which doesnt say ANYTHING about how to fix it.... and doesnt get nearly as much traffic as this forum section...

So lets burry it in there to ensure nobody can find info about it.

your shaders will optimize once for vanilla once for Special forces, and once for nightmaps when u change graphics settings, nothing to worry about, xpack should just have a cache file in it nothing more, and only when you optimize your shaders at least once for SF etc. hope that answers your Q

Days maps in SF2 share the same shader cache as regular BF2.

I've just ordered X1900XT 512MB, was this a mistake? :hmm:

I get this from time to time but I've found that if you delete your cache file and it optimizes settings again (rewrites the cache files) then you should be good to go.
