My View of USMC Winning Wake Island.

This is my view of the USMC strategy for winning Wake Island:
The first thing is that this actually takes teamwork!
On most public servers this strategy will not work.

    So lets begin:
    1. Before the start of the round everyone should join a squad.

    2. When the round starts ONLY the squadleaders should spawn as Engineer and Medics.

    3. All the squadleaders should RUSH for the BlackHawk and get going, one squadleader should get in a F-35B.

    4. While in the BlackHawk, the pilot should get up to 300+ ft. altitude while near or behind the carrier before leaving. The F-35B should do likewise.

    5. Now while the BlackHawk is heading for the island, you have two options:

    A. Have a squadleader bail a each flag.

    B. Go straight to the airfield and have all squadleaders bail.

    6. Now after each squadleader gets on the ground, THEN the squad members should start to spawn.

    7. When everyone spawns then its time to cap flags, since a full squad can flip a flag very fast. Then the Chinese team will not have a clue what is happening, since they will be wondering where the US team is. Most likely the Chinese will be either at the end of the runway or at the tips of the island. So since this is the case the US commander should drop artillery on the massed enemy troups.

    8. Now is the time to clean out all the enemies and defend the flags, hopefully the US has all the flags by now or they have a majority of them.

    9. Go for the WIN!

Now here is my other view:
    This takes less teamwork.

    1. Have a squadleader pilot the BlackHawk with a squad of engineers and medics.

    2. Get to 300+ ft near or behind the carrier before leaving.

    3. Now you have two options:

    A. Wait for the other BlackHawk to spawn and follow the same procedure that the first BlackHawk did.

    B. Head for the island and let the other BlackHawk catch up.

4a. If you are waiting for the other BlackHawk then hover up high, have someone jump in the Essex AA Gun, and a F-35B circling the carrier to scare or keep busy and J-10s.

4b. If you are heading for the island then pick either the North or the South side of the island and head for the closest flag.

    5. So now it should be one BlackHawk up high on the North side and another BlackHawk on the South side of the island up high.

    6. Have you squad members start to bail over the flags while the squad leader hovers up high as a spawn point.

    7. Your squad members should all go at the same time since it easier to cap a flag with many people instead of individuals going whenever they revive.

    8. When one flag is capped then the BlackHawk should move towards the next flag, the squad members on the ground should move for the next flag on ground. If they die then they should respawn in the BlackHawk and repeat the steps.

    9. After capping the North and South side of the island, the two BlackHawks should meet at the airfield high in the air. From there they should continue to have squad members bail to try and get the airfield.

    10. There will be some Chinese soldiers trying to take back a flag, so if that happens then a Blackhawk should go for that flag and have the squadmembers defend it.

Note: You do not have to cap the flags in the order that I suggested, you can start at the airfield and work your way down to get rid of J-10s and Helicopters.

    US Attack Helicopter Tactics:

The reason for this section is because of the people who blame me of sucking, crazy flying and wanting to kill infantry.

A typical round for me with a random pilot is this:
Take off from carrier at low altitude so I don't even have a good TV view. Then it gets worse, the fly right into North the tip of the island which has:
    2 FAVs
    1 AA
    2 Tanks
    1 Attack Helicopter
    2 J-10s flying around
Then the AA lock goes on, we start to get sprayed with bullets, TV Missiles fly past and J10s making passes at us. Worse of all I can't shoot any TV Missile because his nose is down and he using rockets, next thing you know; we are dead. Then the pilot goes on to blame me for being inadequate!

Now me as pilot and random guy as gunner:
He starts to fire the gun randomly at everything. Then he fires the TV Missile when he is well out of range. I am typically at 200+ ft, I line him up for TV shot at AA, instead he shoots at the tank with cannon or shoots a TV at the tank when it's impossible for him to hit it at that angle. So I have to use my rockets to kill AA then run back to carrier because a Z-10 is coming and I am in enemy territory with a terrible gunner. Now I realize I rather die than watch straight TV missiles. He then blames me for crazy flying.

    Now for my tips:
    1. Sometimes on Wake Island it makes sense to fly at 200+ ft since J-10s will be flying lower, since they will be worried about getting kills on the carrier. Also when you fly higher you give yourself and gunner a better view of the battlefield, a better shot, most people won't see the death from above, it's easier to shoot from above rather than upward, and it easier to shoot from longer distances than close.

    2. The gunner should not shoot randomly, it gives us away.

    3. If you see an enemy target or jet coming at us spot him. Spotting targets makes everything a lot easier.

    4. DO NOT fire the cannon on the enemy helicopter unless he fires first or you are sure that he sees us. Keep the enemy helicopter spotted for the pilot.

    5. Pilot and gunner should look at the mini map for targets.

    6. Pilot and gunner should listen to the radio and read the screen messages for knowledge of what is out there.

For example: When I am gunner and I see enemy helicopter, I will spot it. The problem the pilot doesn't listen. So its, "Hostile slick inbound," over and over and pilot in his own little world not paying attention. I always wondered, on the US team it says it in plain English. Is the pilot deaf?
Also it is great when some is calling for help because of a tank or helicopter and you take out the tank or helicopter for your team! Always makes people happy when you help them out.

    7. Listen for exploding TV Missiles, it means you are being shoot at. It is a horrible feeling when you see and hear them coming and the pilot pays no attention.

    8. Pilots do not shoot rockets at the enemy helicopter unless you are sure all will hit or the other helicopter sees you. You give yourself away otherwise.

    9. Wait for the TV Missile line up before firing. This happens all the time; the gunner will fire from a hard angle before I can line him up. So when I do, he is reloading.

    10. Pilots do not hover for too long. Line up gunner, get shot off move on.

    11. On Wake Island I do not bother to kill infantry unless we have the Chinese Airfield. I stick to helicopters, tanks, cars, J-10s if possible, and AAs. The reason is because it's too easy to shot down by the J-10s and Attack Helicopter. You are going to be too busy killing infantry rather than watching out.

    12. "Heli Suppression": Keep the enemy helicopters down and if possible J-10s with TV Missiles. The best way to do this is by staying OUT of the airfield at 200+ ft above the wrecked fishing boat in the harbor near the artillery. You have a clear view of the airfield, Jets do not normally fly in the middle since they will be too busy reloading on runway, you will not be overly noticeable, you are out of range from AA at the Airfield and also car and rockets will have a hard time shooting you.
Most people fly into the airfield and guess what? There are FAVs, AA, and Jets constantly flying over the runway. Unfortunately a lot pilots decide to fly in by coming from the end of the runway, worse move ever, that's where the jets are!

    13. When we are retreating switch to the camera view that shows what coming from behind the pilot. For example, a jet coming after us or a helicopter is chasing us.

    14. Try to be in a squad with your copilot, so you can communicate.

    15. Give the pilot reminders about how many TV Missiles you have left. It is terrible when the pilot does not know and he lines you up and does not see the missile going off and is wondering what is going on.

    16. Compliment your copilot on their flying or gunning when they do well for encouragement. It works wonders because people like to feel appreciated.

    17. Ask the commander drop supplies at friendly base out of harm's way, so that you do not have to go back all the way to carrier to reload.

    18. Ask the commander to inform you of helicopters taking off and tanks moving about.

Nice guide, but flying the BH at 300? More like 400.

And the jets should fly much higher than 200. Try at least 600 and average 700.

This probably works well against bots settings on Ultra Super Mega Easy.

Or you can try to fly the black hawk all the way to the edge on the map rather than wait for it to gain altitude.

once your at the edge, usually on the south end, then swoop in to the beach and bail everyone out. quick cap. Then go from there. Ticket bleed stops.

Usually if you go for their main at the beginning of the round, you maybe able to cap it, but there are a lot enemies around. So if you dont have enough friendlies to counter them, you will loose the flag pretty quick.

                  2 things.

                  First flag.
                  Medics.

Get a SL, any SL, into a F35b to fly quickly to a flag and bail (preferably an easily defended one) have SM spawn on him and take the flag. Rinse repeat till you have a good foot hold.

Use A FEW meds in a squad to attack flags, like 1 for squad of 4 or 2 for 6. One good medic acting as just a medic can handle a fighting squad just fine. The medics should be medics first, then riflemen (I know that goes against the USMC motto or whatever, but so does losing). Spawn points are nice but having a continuous fighting force is even better. For this strat you don't really even need a good SL as spawn point.

I'm sure everyone here has seen it, a 64p game where a 4-6man squad does all the work and basically wins the map. It only takes one semi-organized squad to work very effectively against 32 individuals.

As the OP said, its difficult to organize even the most mundane strategy on a public server.

the small island is also an itrigal part of wake. within the first minute the small island and its boats will usually not be attacked. getting to shore on both sides and pushing up is a really good way to win wake, remember the at kit and remember not to get in the cars till after you take out the tanks. also tanks can be taken out from the small island with at. theres many times i find my entire team pushing up one side, so i spawn on the small island, make a little boat trip and vola, the enemy has two flanks, making the airfield a possible target, devide and conqure. one thing i notice about wake (besides the obvious air to air/air to ground situation)is that people dont realise the potential of the 50 cal.

GET SOME ALTITUDE IN THOSE CHOPPERS --> If you take only one thing away from this post take that. ... seems to work high percentage of times... I go minimum 350ft... have gone up to 500 before..

PLEASE don't fly the choppers straight in at 50 ft !

Usually one of two methods seem to work:

Gather a big squad, spawn as SL in the arty-island, and take the beach using boats. The squad should have at least two AT guys in it, one supply, and at least two medics.

                        OR

Hop into a Blackhawk as SL, fly very high and para-drop onto the airfield.

It's actually pretty simple - if USMC holds the airfield, chances are they will win.

Doing so, they are denying the Chinese the use of 2 J-10s, 1 attack chopper and 1 tank. If the J-10s and choppers are already in the air, then it denies them any repairing or reloading abilities. You also gain the use of an F/A 18 and tank for USMC, which will heavily swing the balance in your favor.

If the USMC can hold the airfield for the majority of the round, they will go a long way to winning.

Of course, the best way to do this is to catch the Chinese off guard right at the start. Have a full squad, fly the F-35B straight to the Chinese airfield and bail (preferably at some height so you don't get spotted). Once you land, get your teammates to spawn on you. Within 30 seconds the flag should be yours, all whilst the Chinese choppers, jets, tanks and jeeps are heading for the shoreline.

Nice guide....increase the altitude on the blackhawks and we're in business .

Go for airfield first, for obvious reasons then work the other flags accordingly...just takes teamwork.

I have done this with a sniper duo before, and it works well when your opponents aren't expecting it. It is critical that you have multiple air assets up or you will be the meatball target regardless of how high you fly.

Obviously, learning to HALO jump is critical, or else they will just flock toward the guy slowly drifting in by chute. And it goes without saying (but I'll say it anyway), that air superiority is the key to winning any air-equipped map, so obviously and capable air base is the priority.

I also find that you can never get this organized on a random server, but should work if you are playing with your clan or friends.
