If they'd just up the ammo on the assault unlock, and tone down the massive deviation on the thing, assault might be worth playing again, provided you're in a squad with a couple of medics.

As is, assault gains no appreciable tactical advantage in almost any situation. Sure, the g/l will go farther, but the splash damage on them has been reduced so much that you almost have to hit them with the grenade for it to do killing damage. Bouncing with the g/l is a neat trick, but again it's got to be an almost dead-on hit.

I don't see why everyone thinks assault is so bad, it's actually very good if you learn to adapt to it instead of coplaining about it. I use it alot because you can get quite a few kills with it, including the nade launcher. I also like it because it takes actual skill to use compared to, say, the medic kit. Instead of point whoring with revives and running off to heal everytime your heatlh drops below 50% in a fire fight, you have to stick it out and use "staying power" and combat prowess to keep yourself alive.

As for the GL, it once was a very crazy killing machine, and still is, if you can adapt your strategy to the new attributes; turn the cons into pros. Example: Instead of rushing around a corner to use the GL to take a unit you know is there, launch the grenade at the wall uclose so it bounces and catches him off-guard. It's worked many times for me.

The Assault class is a perfect lesson and test in Darwinism.

right. after i got the unlocks i wanted, i balanced my playing time. i still like the g3; can still decently aim a g/l. but why? what is "good reason" for playing assault now? compared to the other classes, less potential for points, and less points (to me, anyway).

and it's not that i mind the points so much these days, it's just that i despise being useless.
