The f35 will be replacing the F16, AV8 Harrier II, Sea Harrier, A10, F18 Hornet (NOT the Superhornet), and F14 Tomcat. It also uses stealth technology in it's design, and is also equipped for air to ground and air to air combat. Interestingly, the F35 will be the first modern combat aircraft without a heads up display. The display will instead be mounted in the helmet of the pilot.

the F-22 will NOT completely replace the F15 because only 189 of the original 339 F22s will actually be delivered. instead they will fly along side the F15s in mixed fighter wings/squadrons.
also the F35 will not replace any aircraft other than the Harrier. procurements and improvements/upgrades for the others will continue untill atleast 2009 and possibly beyond.

Well, by me saying eventually, that's kind of what I meant Not immediately, but it will be eventually replacing those aircraft, also according to many official military sources, in the future.
Right now the F-18 is the one replacing f-14 f-15 in the navy and marines. It makes the same job has those two and cost less to operate. None of the f-22 of f-35 is in service. Maybe some few f-22 cause those are old. F-35 comes out like in 2010.

The F-18 is only replacing the F-14 Tomcat, and actually has already, with the recent return of the last Tomcat squadron. They are now switching to Superhornets which fullfill the job.
The F-18 in no way replaces the F-15. The F-15 isn't even in the Marines or Navy, how the heck would it replace it?
The F-22 IS currently in service and has been already assigned to squadrons in Nevada, NY, and Alaska most recently if I remember correctly.
And also, What the freakin heck? The F-22 is old? Oh wow..
