Progressive lag

I'm experiencing a lag problem with BF2 that wasn't there before I upgraded. The problem is that the game runs fine the first two maps, and then it begins to lag more and more as I play on. After a few maps the forward motion is more or less jerky, the position of the crosshair suddenly jumps an inch or so as I look around, the reload-animation and audio is out of sync, iron-sight sometimes lags behind, etc. It reaches a certain point of "lagginess", and then stabilizes. My specs should handle the game even on high settings, but I run 800x600 and medium settings. My current specs are:

AMD 4200 64 X2
3 GB RAM
GF 6600, 128 MB (AGP)

I know this can probably be a million things, but if someone has experienced similar symptoms, I would appreciate any thoughts on what the solution to this might be...

No your PC cant handle it at high. your video card isent so good.
If suggsest you to sell 6600 and get 7600GT.

Unless it also has a PCI X x16 slot?

The card is not the best, I'll admit, but that still doesn't explain why the lag is progressive.

Try to monitor your GPU temperature as you play the game. Someone chime in with the best program to do this.

I bought a 6600 256 AGP and it can run BF2 on high in single player

But it cant run it in multiplayer for various reasons. It can run medium settings on multiplayer but I get horrible FPS yours should be good though. Update your video drivers for it if you havent already and reply back.
