When a problem isn't easily reproduced or isolated in an application, you end up questioning everything. HW is easy to pick on since that's where the variance becomes a nightmare for SW developers. Gamers are magnitudes worse than corporate users based on the combination of CPUs, GPUs, memory, sound cards, overclocking, heat, chipsets, O/S versions and patches, video drivers, audio drivers, etc... It's the interaction of the HW, BF2, net code, etc. that combine to create situations like yours and others.
Ultimately it is a coding issue. Problems do exist, I have never denied that. LAG IS REAL FOR MANY SF owners. I have accepted that many things aren't going to be fixed. However I am still having fun.
