  • Upgraded videocard. BF2 reinstall necessary?

I'm only upgrading from a Powercolor 800 XL to a ATI 1600 Pro. The only thing Ive done is install the latest cats. Performance in BF2 is the same or maybe slightly worse after the upgrade. It has reopimized the shaders the first time i started BF2.

Do i need to clean the old drivers out? reinstall BF2? both?

    thanks in advance

Delete the contents of the cache folders in:

    \My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

    \My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\xpack\cache

Then start BF2 and run a couple of maps in single player mode to reoptimize quickly. If you have SF install, run Mass, Warlord, and Night flight to fully optimize.

You may also want to delete the video.con file from your profile directory and let the game create a new one. If you do delete this file, start the game and reset your video settings and save them. Stop the game and restart it. Then do the optimizations in single player I listed above.

its usually good to clean out the old drivers when ur using a new card, but reinstalling bf2 is not necessary

Try Drivercleaner if you want to take the extra step, it seems to work well for me.

wow, no wonder. I guess its RMA time. Can anyone reccomend a decent AGP card that is good bang for the buck?
