POE2 is the first mod I'm looking forward to playing (released this week!)

IMO, stat whores are the exact people we DON'T need playing mods. They don't give a rat's *** about their team, as long as they get their points. DC did fine without stats. Yes, you will have fewer players playing mods, but they will be higher quality since they are there by choice. Without stats, and unlocks, BF2 is a so-so game. The stats/unlocks are what save it. The mods coming out (or released already) stand very well on their own.

I do agree that allowing more player made maps on ranked server would do wonders for BF2. The "company line" about not being able to test them for balance is 100% BS. The community is a much better tester then any QA team in Sweden/Canada could ever hope to be. They'll tear a map apart from every angle until it's refined down to awesome gaming goodness. The hard fact is they don't want the ranked BF2 community to continue, they want them to all move to 2142.

Alternate Ranking will do just fine for those who just want to track thier numbers while enjoying the great variety of mods. I will continue to enjoy both the "official" ranked community and the mod side, but I don't hold any hope of them ever being on the same team.

None yet. The server files will be released first, then a passworded torrent for people who will seed the official release, and then a public release on Saturday. It's all on their site.

I think that they should allow a few of the mods to be on the ranked servers and have them in the stats also.
With that said let me ask this question? When was the last time that you played on a ranked server that had no one useing a cheat or glitching? Ill tell you my normal experience, lately, is that out of 10 ranked servers Ive visited this week maybe 5 had no cheats or glitching going on all round long. If Dice/EA cant stop this or wont reset those doing it what would it matter if they are doing it on a ranked server running a mod. I say the mods are king long live the MODS. . . . . . . . .Red

I gave up Ranked Servers over 3 months ago because of all the Smacktards and non-Team Players. It was refreshing to find a mod playing, but I do know that they will not last no being on equal footing with the Ranked servers.

                Bama,

I truly think that the decline in any mod at this point in time is due to one and only one issue. That issue is the source code for the mods is still broken and awaiting yet another patch. Not many players are going to go to the trouble of swapping versions of BF2 just to play a mod. Until BF2 is either fixed or EA announces the end of support for it, the mods are hogtied. Every EA/DICE patch messes up months and months of mod work. This has done more damage to the mod fanbase than anything else. People are tired of waiting for the 1.0 release of the full mod.

Even the few out there now are losing ground because the mods are having the same code problems that BF2 has.

I really and truly don't think that stats are playing that big of a part in any mod's popularity right now.

I will be happy to eat my words after the final patch for BF2 comes out and it is shown that the stats tracking issue has caused the mods to go belly up. Right now though, I think it is too early to really make that call.

Re: Survival & Renewal of the BF Series, Making it Great Again!

Personally don´t see the big drama about the ranks, ranks make the players play for themselves, for the score, and not for the team.

The only way Dice/EA can make this change is make stats for teamplay more then individual play, that would change things, not give ranks to mods.

Because you apply a rank system like the one in Vanilla BF2 and you will see the same happening to that mod, it fills up with egocentrical players that just want a shiny badge of "General" or whatever to show everybody else that they are "the man"... Do you really want to see mods filled with non-team players? I don´t, and that´s why ranks and stats to me don´t count, playing does.

DC, EoD, FH, Vanilla BF42 and other good mods didn´t need stats and ranks, if they are good they will step up.

There are more people saying that Ranks and stats ruined BF2, so why do we need ranks in mods? To ruin them too? No thanks.

All BF42 players could see their stats in a site outside of the game, it had all their achievements in the game and mods, still, players didn´t bragged about it ingame, and that what made BF42 smacktard free, a separate site doing so.
Some would see it regurally, others out of curiosity, but i never saw people bragging they were the best while playing, or doing stat-pad just to see another shiny medal appear in the corner of the screen.

It´s the ingame rank system that makes most of the players go stupid, imo.

Major Ursa, you do have a point, DICE/EA have contributed little to the support of the mod community. However the issue you speak of is really an old one, There will be no real changes that effect the Mods with the 1.4 patch because about all they did was hopefully fix some bug issues. Another point is that none of the real highend mods have been released except OPK, and now POE2 will be out next week. When I played OPK it played damn good, and any chages made in the 1.4 should not effect it or any of the others coming very soon.

Yes, I agree the Rank/Stat system has screwed the game to hell, however we are stuck with it because EA wants it. I would like to see it pointed more toward the Team Play, but at this late stage it want happen.

I am not saying my suggestions will be the great fix-all, it wont be. All I'm asking of DICE/EA is that they don't keep this unfair competive advanage over the Mod Community.

Lude, we are stuck with it, so now we have to find a way to live with it that's fair for the Mod Community, and everyone involved with this game..

This may not be the answer, but for God sake lets try something.

                      RANKED POE2 SERVERS!
OH, Did I do This!! Who the hell knows, I would like to think so, but at the very least DICE/EA are thinking along the same lines. Good for them! Just maybe we now have Developers who are wide awake with a comettment to do something smart and great for the Community.

The three Ranked POE2 servers I saw were all in Germany so maybe their testing it for now. I tried to join but always full.

I don't think that the ranking has anything to do with mods having so few servers/players. It's hard to say what will happend to PoE2 in the future regarding the number of servers/players but I personally can't get any kick out of those uninteresting maps that are based too much on tankcombat and THAT is the reason why I enjoy ranked (or unranked) Vanilla Karkand, Vanilla Sharqi and Vanilla Mashtuur a lot more than the whole PoE2 mod.
PoE2 maps just don't offer the samekind of gameplay diversity that those vanillaBF2 maps offer to me.

Ranking has nothing to do with the amount or lack of teamplay. In 42 there were a lot of people who didn't "teamplay" at all even though there were no ranked servers and this has always been with total stranges and not with a "pre-arranged" clanmates or something like that. There were also people complaining plane and tank whores "who just care about their own score etc." in 42 too and in most of the online games that has any kind of scoring, there will always be those people who only care for the biggest score and not the teamplay.

It's true that there are now statpadders but those people don't really bother me and I've had some pretty good teamplay experiences in ranked servers too. Actually, I think that a map like Karkand has far better gameplay structure for good squadplay than most of those mod maps where the flags have no strategic meaning to gameplay at all because they're just scattered all over the gameplay area.

If the mod community will DIE, it's won't die because of ranked servers or 2142. It will die if it has nothing interesting to offer into the gameplay and this is why I haven't really enjoyed the mods that I've tried so far for BF2 (PRMM, OPK or PoE2).
