    Changing names

I would have thought in the up and coming patch we would have been able to change our names ,this is the first FPS that i have known where we cant change our in game names.

    Re: Changing names

It would be a good addition to the BF series to have the ability to change our names. I'd even pay an admin fee for having it changed too. But oh well, i guess they'll never do it!

it saves alot of things. for instance if someones acting up an admin will have to keep an eye on the guy with the cettan name, and every body wouldent have a "true identity"

Hmmm not sure on this one? I think the addition of the prefix was a good move by EA. I think as Deadcrap says it allows people to be on the look out for certain players and it means we all have our own 'identity'.

I think everyone realises now when you create an account DON'T create it with your clan prefix already in the account name.

          Re: Changing names

My clan is a Novalogic based squad so I was use to being able to change my name. I thought I could do it in BF2 as well. Unfortunally, it was after I put EC in my original name did I realize I couldnt change it. I kno u couldnt for BF 1942, I thought surely DICE/EA would do it this time...nope.

You can always start another account. But you are starting again if you do. I've got another one I use if I'm fooling around.

                Re: Changing names

The names cannot be changed because of gamespy. Im kind of glad in a way too because otherwise we would have another aspect that would make the game too similar to Counter Strike.
It's very handy having players with the same name, it helps keep track of the smacktards that are sprinkled around here and there.

                  Yup... what Rev said.
It's the GS structure and I have seen it in other games.

                    Re: Changing names

Throughout 2-3 years of casual FPS gaming Im glad that BF2 has an account system. Im pretty damn sure all admins are grateful for that aswell.

Having adminned a SWAT4 server for more than half a year, a first hand experience in adminning name-switching asshats can be a serious b!tch, especially when the game does indeed allow multiple same names on one server. So imagine you and your clanmates playing, and in comes 3 guys who switch their names after one of your clanmate. They quickly teamkill the sh!t out of both sides successfully ruining the game for 13 other players... And you can only ban and kick them after youve negotiated with your clanmate, that hell switch a name to something else real fast... And this was hard in a 16 player server, imagine the same sh!t in a 64 player server?

The other "great" thing was, that you cant ban people by their username, because there were no GS account system. So you banned an IP adress, they just restarted their modem and came back in. And you cant put an IP range ban because one or more of your clanmates are in the same range.

Add the great possibility of hacking into servers and shutting them down, into equation, and you got yourself a LOT of problems.

So, when BF2142 comes out, do as I did with BF2, select a few usernames, and "copyright" (register) them all, you wont regret it.

I would have to say hells no to that kind of clan. Usually a clan will have you add the preffix onto your existing name. No sense in dedicating all kinds of time and energy into a tagged anme because you never know, you might not want to stay in that clan.

Yeah but you cant edit your name? so how can you add a prefix?

Yes, this seems to be the only fps that doesn't allow you to change names, but you forget, there is a recording program built into the game, just like MMORPGs. Think PlanetSide, for example. In BattleField2, you are "you"...that is your identity. Everything you do is recorded for your account. I personally think that the names shouldn't be changeable. Like people mentioned, you can keep an eye out for known troublemakers.

You can have your standard name:

                              Pwner_Of_Nubs

Your name with a prefix would look like this, the [DiE] being the clan for illustrative purposes only:

                              [DiE] Pwner_Of_Nubs
