    PC Gaming in 5, 10, 20 years.....Battlefield 10

It's not so on-topic but im just day-dreaming for those waiting for the patch or news related to the patch or something...

As the computing power of the average gaming PC increases, and the power of the latest engines is cruising higher... what do you imagine PC games will be like in 5, 10, 20 years?

PC games, Console games, whatever... just daydream and post your thoughts.

    CPU's... 2 cores now, 64 bits now... 5 or 10 years? 8 cores? 128 bits 20 gigahertz speed?

Video Cards... 512 MB of video ram, 1ghz GPU speeds... dual GPU boards, SLI... 5 or 10 years? I cant even imagine. Video integrated into the CPU seamlessly? 5ghz GPU speeds? 4GB DDR(8) RAM? Another RAM interface?

    The possibilities are litterally limitless.

Video quality? an FPS game that makes Pixar animation look like Bugs Bunny cartoons and isnt even measured in FPS because it is rendered real time in seamless motion concurrent with reality.

Controls... this one is a little crazier, but imagine a controle interface you wear on your head that allows you to control a computer with your mind. Think strafe jump shoot switch weapons... and it happens at that very instant.

    I wish I had a time machine.

I hear the BF10 demo is insane.

10 years from now the pc will almost be a thing of the past. The access to the internet and most all of today's pc will be acheived through neural networks. Your home, your vehicle, everything will be wired in and the processors will all be about as fast as the human synapse is now.

Games will either be played in a true VR type setting where you are physically active and can experience feedback from the virtual world OR they will be more "in your head" type experiences where you sit down and put on some glasses or a helmet and have the game broadcast into your mind. Kind of like a waking dream.

Sure, sounds far fetched, but when Apollo 11 landed on the moon, their flight vehicle had about as much computer power as your average digital calculator watch or one of those cheap programmable thermostats for your home. Yep, that was in 1969.

In 1986, Commadore was still selling the Commadore 128! In 1996, a Pentium II was awesome. Here we are in 2006, look at what we have. 2016.........

The dissapearance of physical interface devices is probably the next major step. Oh, and the moon landing was filmed in a studio.

Ha! You MUST be from Franklin Parish Louisiana ! Where wrestling is real and the moon shot was fake!

I swear, I really know people living and breathing today that don't believe man has ever left Earth's gravity.

I'm not sure I like that idea, will it be possible? I bet it will, but i dunno if im gonna wait in line for my brain to be "plugged in".

Just last night i went to a freinds house and played the new Fight Night for the 360 on his high-def TV, It also got me thinking that im not that old and i remember my old commodore 64 and games like mars city, in 50 years.....who knows.

Hmmm well in 2016 computers will be a thing of the past, because acording the the Mayan's the world is not going to be here after 2012.

The Classic Mayan civilization was unique and left us a way to incorporate higher dimensional knowledge of time and creation by leaving us the Tzolkin calendar. The Mayans invented the calendars we use today. The present calendars ends in the year 2012.

One Word - Holodeck! Yeah Baby! BTW: These guys from the Holo-Dek center in Hampton, New Hampshire are actually building a real HoloDeck! It may not quite have the same features as the holodeck from Star Trek - but seeing your favorite computer games unfold at human scale has got to be pretty amazing!

With the insane cash flow that the computer gaming industry has going (into the Billions), they are almost as much of a driving force in tech as the Defense Department. The bio-chipsets are already in final testing phase and should start appearing in the marketplace within the next 18 months. The only problem is how to introduce them without people really knowing what they are made from. "Frankenchips increase risk of spread of super bugs from heat sink exhaust fan!" I can see the headlines now.

Oh, and I seriously doubt you would "plug" into the system. Not many folks will let anyone place a plug in behind their ear. No, the data will be transmitted through the eye in a light beam. Yes, they are already using lasers to transmit data.

Dont known about what gfx, hardware and all that will be like, but I know two things- BF wont be there and 80% of games will be CS.

Yea its not the physical plug that worried me, it's the idea of my brain interfaced directly with the internet period. Viruses might have a whole new meaning. I might be wrong though and seen too many sci-fi movies lol

Easy there. 2012 is the year that the Long Count ends. The 5250 year processional cycle that the Earth takes to make one revolution along the axis wobble path. It also is when we will be aligned with the exact center of the Milky Way Galaxy. The calander continues as the Maya have names for the next baktuns. This count ends in 2012 and a new age begins. What the Maya called "births". Please read all of the codecies that have been found and translated. The one you draw from only deals with major events in their calendar system and does not go beyond this current age. And don't forget that we only have 7 codicies, the Spainiards burned hundreds of them while trying to convert the Maya to Catholocism.

I know what you mean. Can you imagine the pop-ups! I guess there would have to be some kind of suped up virus scan or firewall or something. Otherwise you would be hard pressed to tell what was spam and what was an actual thought of your own!

                          Maybe there is a pill.......
