Re: Why can't I win as commander
Try to make sure everyone is in a squad. Provide supply drops behind armor in battles. Use UAV's to highlight heavy concentrations of enemy. Spot leakers so you can defend far off bases. Drop vehicles to people defending those far off bases. You should not pilot a chopper or jet while commanding. Being in other positions in vehicles/armor/aircraft is still a topic of heated debate. Your score is the average of your team, minus negative or zero scores. Pay attention to what your squad leaders ask for.
No matter how good the commander is, he is only one link in the chain. If your team are un-organized, grabasstic pieces of crap, then even the most seasoned commander will lose.Comment

I feel your pain, but it goes both ways though... I arty a position with only enemy there, and absolutely every time, someone from my team will run into the middle of it and get blown off the map!Originally posted by matashodont arty your own team! haha sorry i know i didn't help but just venting.

Re: Why can't I win as commander
Tip #1: Constantly ask people to join a squad. Make sure to politely remind people who are unassigned to squads to join a squad. Squads are more likely to work better than a bunch of lame lone wolves. At the very least, you make sure the majority of your team has an extra spawn point, which can definitally help out.Originally posted by Gen.WillyAs anyone got any commander tips for me because I can't win, and I don't know where I'm going wrong, so if you have any tips please post them, thanks
Tip #2: Spot. Spot. Spot. Spot. Spot. Spot. Spot. If you're not spotting as a commander, then you're already a failure in my books. This is the most useful tool that a commander has, as you can act as a veritable UAV without having to worry about waiting for timers, or the restriction of a small radius. Spot every enemy you see nearby your troops, and they will reward you with a fraction of the points they get from the kill they've made.
Tip #3: Use Artillery sparingly. Teamkilling your team just pisses them off. You're not going to get many people willing to play hard for you, if you piss them off. A good time to use Artillery is when you see one lone solider about to be ganged up on by five enemy soliders. Theres virtually 0% chance that he'll survive, and you'll give him the revenge he desires after hes dead.
Tip #4: Listen to your squad captains. If they require a vehicle. Drop one. If they want supplies. Drop a crate. If they require a UAV, assess the situation and spot for them if theres only one or two enemies nearby. If theres a full squad, then spot them all, or drop a UAV.
Tip #5: Hide your goofy arse underneath some cover, otherwise you're going to get Artillery, Cartillery or Crate bombed.
Tip #6: Use supply crates to fix distant assets. Be an engineer to repair nearby assets.
Tip #7: Use Artillery to protect your assets and flags.
Tip #8: Drop Artillery, Cars and Crates on stationary snipers. Your troops have more important things to do than to deal with them. If the sniper is smart, then just spot him, and hope one of your troops catches wind, before he catches a bullet to the head.
Tip #9: C4, or AT mine important back flags. Be prepared to do a little dirty work if it means protecting your team's victory. Losing a back flag is the best way to lose a match.
Tip #10: Issuing orders only works if the squad is willing to listen.
Tip #11: Use a little foresight. If you see an enemy heading towars Back Flag #2, and you're stuck defending Back Flag #3, make sure to shout multiple times in your team chat. "Back Flag #2 is under attack! We need defenders to spawn there before it's too late!" You'd be suprised to find that four or five people actually listen to this, and you'll be pleasantly rewarded when they defend the flag. Make sure to reward them back by dropping a car nearby so they can get back to the frontlines quick.Comment

Re: Why can't I win as commander
First tip... You as commander - may be the most important member of your team... but you arent the ONLY member of your team. If you play on the same server all the time, you may try switching sides... or maybe even switching servers. If your team doesnt help you out by playing AS a team, you will get nowhere.
Second tip... Look for teamwork. If you see a squad that is off getting flags and doing things that may lead to your success - focus your efforts on them . Karkand is a good example. If 3/4 of your team is rushing the hotel and getting slaughtered, but youve got one squad out doing thier thing - dont waste the UAV and supplies and whatnot on the slaughterhouse. Give that squad all the support you can. You can always zoom in and spot enemies for the slaughterhouse crowd... but eventually they will get the point and perhaps even teamplay themselves.
3rd tip... Always try to think a little ahead. If you see a badguy team sneaking up on one of your flags, dont wait to send arty there. By the time you see they are taking a flag and send arty, if there are more than 2-3 of them, they have the flag and are long gone from that site. SOmetimes a preemptive strike will not only kill off the team sneaking in, but it lets them know you are watching - they may get discouraged and not try to take it again.
The same goes for armor. If you see on scan that youre about to have a bunch of armor getting into a slugout - send some supplies their way. I usually try to send it in a little behind the friendly team... that way they can retreat and rearm/repair. Dont be afraid to spot armor. ALot of guys get so caught up in the first person battle, they dont check thier UAV minimap to see whats rolling up on them. Sometimes I even spot armor thats in a UAV scan, just so the guys KNOW that its armor rolling thier way.
Fourth tip... dont be afraid to command. Alot of times admittedly your commands may fall on deaf ears. But at very least commanding (attack here, defend here, mine here etc etc etc) does one of two things. It will tell you who and where the teamplayers are, and it may encourage the other to actually follow orders if you end up getting your *** kicked and they see you were trying to help out. As a general rule and sidenote - I ALWAYS commend a squad that does well or follows orders, but I dont always rebuke squads that dont. Sometimes the squads see things that you dont. And sometimes you just have a plain old smacktard that will respond very negatively to ANY negative comment.
There are other tips, but im in the middle of tearing out windows in my house and rebuilding a wall... Ill try to come back later. Most importantly just practice... and realize its just a game. You wont always win, and sometimes it's just not your day. *thumbs up*Comment

Re: Why can't I win as commander
I disagree. A commander who never stops spotting every. single. thing. on the map makes a lot of players pissed off. Last time I had one of those, I took my headphones off to ignore him.Originally posted by DairukaTip #2: Spot. Spot. Spot. Spot. Spot. Spot. Spot. Supply crates should be reserved to help tanks win battles and re-arm the troops. Try going engineer, and repair your own assets. You generally aren't doing anything else anyway.Originally posted by DairukaTip #6: Use supply crates to fix your assets.

Re: Why can't I win as commander
How many timers have you gone commander because the law of averages depicts that you'll win a round by default eventually!
Try and have a bit of foresight and put yourself on your teams boots, so to speak, try and visualise whats happening and use all the tools at your disposal. If you can see half a dozen enemy soldiers running towards a flag then arty the flag before they get there so it lands on their arrival, dont wait until its gone neutral because by that point you've lost it. Really frustrating when a commander waits until it's gone neutral, then fires artillery, they get the flag and leave the area and we all pile in to take the flag back and get artied, or have to wait until arty finished and by that point the enemy are taking another flag.Comment

Supply crates have a very fast timer in comparison to everything else. So it is feasable to do both without any issues.Originally posted by USI_KrusherSupply crates should be reserved to help tanks win battles and re-arm the troops. However, when faced with the choice, the team would benefit more from having it's UAV back up, than it would for the remote possibility that a person driving a tank is smart enough to use the supply crate properly.
Even if the tank driver was a master at using a tank, his importance still pales in comparison to the importance of the UAV.
I say make the tank whore wait 30 seconds for the next supply crate to drop. If he can't wait that long, then he can go back to one of the previously dropped supply crates, he can get an engineer to repair him, or he can wait for the tank to respawn after he gets smoked.Comment

Re: Why can't I win as commander
#1 way to learn to command, first learn to follow (learn the game)
Playing all kits, & vehicles as SL, & squad member will give you the experience you need to command
If you have not done that yet, you are unqualified to command
It would be "too soon" for your first command
There is no more a "horrific" sight than to see a "1 striper" got the commander spot

Hmmm... you mean other command functions? Supply crates are the second slowest recharge behind Arty.Originally posted by Dairuka

But, I see your point. On maps such as Oman and you're US, then if you cannot get an engineer to repair assets, then it's perfectly fine to drop a crate on them. I probably should have been more specific.Comment

I dont care if it is a Kitchen Lady from school with her apron. As long as that UAV, supply or vehicle drops to the spot I ask for, when I ask for and not 30 minutes later Im happy.Originally posted by SERIALBUTCHER#1 way to learn to command, first learn to follow (learn the game)

Sometimes I refuse UAV requests when the palace is buried in enemies like an ant hill because the leader that requested it is WAY over by TV station with nothing but tumbleweeds blowing in the wind.
Generally a team must lose. You can have the most uber commander, veteran of thousands of engagement, hardened to the most sneaky low-down scorched earth tatics possible in the game still lose if the team is not up to the fight.
Dont worry about the commanding victorys/loss. Sure there is alot of points at stake. But eventually you will get them.Comment
