    BF2 doesn't start???

Hello, after reading all the FAQ and posts I cannont find a solution to my problem. First of all here are my PC specs

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Dual Core
    Asus M2N-E
1GIG Kingston Value Ram (2 512mb sticks running dual channel)
    GeForce 7600GS 256MB 400Mhz core/800Mhz memory
    WD SATA3.0Gb HD

Problem: When I try to start BF2 (I tried desktop shortcuts and straight from CD-Rom) the BF2 logo appears, then a couple of seconds later it dissapears and nothing happens, so I dont even get to the black screen. But the BF2.exe and ~e5.0001 are running in the Processes.
One out of lets say 30 times the game does load.

FIX: I installed AMD patch that is supose to help video games, but it didn't help. I deleted BF2 in mydocuments, renamed Movie file so that it doesnt play movies but that didn't help either.

PS: If anyone knows how to fix this please tell because I pretty much build this whole PC to play BF2 and now it works once out of thirty tires which really sux.

Thanks for your help in advance! :)

It happens to me too. What's your DVD drive? my NEC 3550A is the source of the problem. Don't bother updating your firmware.
The only thing that partially solved it is this:

    http://dl.gamecopyworld.com/?d=2006&f=BF2DVD!rar

Make a folder where your bf2 shorcut is, place the shortcut in that folder and the two MDS / MDF files in it aswell.

download Daemom Tools (if you don't have it already)

Welcome to the official site of DAEMON Tools products! Here you can find out more about one of the best imaging software or download your free DAEMON Tools trial.

Open DT, where the clock is you should see a red lightning.
    Right click on it->Virtual CD/DVD...->Set Number->1
"Please wait..."->Left click on the red icon in the taskbar->Left click on Device 0:...->Double click on the MDS file (NOT the MDF file).
    "Please wait..."
Eject any disc from your dvd reader / burner, put it in a nice place so it will not get lost, and double click on the shourcut in the folder with the mdf/s.

Ive spend like 2 hours on finding a solution for this problem and this is the only thing I found. Sorry.

    Wait for other replies.

        Re: BF2 doesn't start???

I have a similar problem. I got a new PC yesterday with the following specs:

Intel E6400 Core 2 Duo CPU Dual Core
        Gigabyte 8945P-S3 Motherboard
        7900GT 256mb DDR3 Graphics
Kingston 2GB Dual Channel Kit DDR2 533 Memory
16x DVD Writer, Dual Layer Compatible
        320GB Sata-2 16mb W.D. 7200RPM HDD
        Windows XP Professional Edition
ATX Deluxe Window Case No PSU
        650W Atrix Power Supply

I open the game, and it shows the splash screen (With Battlefield 2 text), then it goes black for a few seconds and goes back to the desktop...Any ideas?

                Re: BF2 doesn't start???

is this a new occurence for all of you aswell?
how is it possible it happens to so many of us at the same time.

i wrote EA before about my crash issue, which seems to be the same as everyone else on this post's issue, and this is the advice given:

There are several things that affect the game and cause it to crash, here are the primary reasons why the game crashes back to desktop:

                1. Interference with other programs or applications, as we all knows that Battlefield 2 uses extreme amount of resources. A running application while playing the game may actually cause the game to crash.

                2. Outdated driver may actually cause a crash issue, updating you're driver might improve the game's performance as well.

                3. A corrupted save file can also produce a crash issue. A corrupted save file may also came from an improper configuration of some in-game settings as most of the devices has its own capabilities and limitations.

Here are some suggestions that you can try for the remedy of the issue:

First, please try to empty your temp folder before launching or playing the game. Remnants of an installation or patch are stored by Windows as temporary files, which can prevent the re-installation or starting of that program. These temporary files are normally created to temporarily store information in order to free memory for other purposes, or to act as a safety net to prevent data loss when a program performs certain functions. These temporary files however can trick the games installation program into thinking that the game is already installed, or that a patch is installed when the patch has not been applied properly. Because this can cause complication, it becomes necessary to delete these useless remnants to give your system a clean state prior to launching or installing a piece of software.

First you will need to delete the standard Windows temporary files:

                1. Click on the "Start" button.
                2. Click "Run".
                3. Type "temp" into the available text field and click "OK".
                4. Click on one of the files in the folder that just opened, and press "Ctrl" and "A" to select all of the files in this folder.
                5. Press the "Delete" key on your keyboard. When prompted if you are sure, choose "Yes" to all.

Next you will need to delete your specific logins temporary files:

                1. Click on the "Start" button.
                2. Click "Run".
                3. Type "C:\Documents and Settings\<Insert login name here>\Local Settings\Temp" in the available text field and click "OK".

Note: Be sure to specify your Windows login without the greater than/less than symbols, in the bolded area above.

                4. Click on one of the files in the folder that just opened, and press "Ctrl" and "A" to select all of the files in this folder.
                5. Press the "Delete" key on your keyboard. When prompted if you are sure, choose "Yes" to all.

Secondly, please try to update your video card's driver.

Click here for information on updating your video card drivers.

                http://ea.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg/php/enduser/olh_adp.php?p_faqid=10711&p_created=1124387555&p_s id=%3C?%20echo%20$p_sid%20?%20%20%20%3E

Finally, please try to delete the save files. Deleting this folder should set the in game setting back to default as this saved file could be corrupted due to patch application etc.

                1. Open "My Documents".
                2. Right-click on the "Battlefield 2" folder and choose "Delete".

hey topper im no computer wiz, but i could have told you going out and buying a second copy of the game isnt the solution!
and draggin the bf2 files to the trash would still leave all the registry files and other stuff i know nothing about in there.
reformating is my worst case scenario, but i would download a cd image first like gbetech suggested. hope you still have ur key. wait, now you have a second one!
                    lol

I just installed the 1.4 beta 2 patch and it's working for me.

It might be a bug fixed in 1.4

                        Re: BF2 doesn't start???

I have had this problem a while now and have also contacted EA and got the general response...

It is however resolved on my machine...
It was an impossible screenresolution setting in the Video.con file in :
                        C:\Documents and Settings\Your User\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Default

                        my settings was set on
VideoSettings.setResolution 1600x1200@60Hz and could not be displayed on my 19" screen... changing it back to 1280x1024@60Hz made the game playable again...

hopes this helps any of you...

                        Sigurd

Hi, well I found whats wrong, well at least with my PC.
If I put the CD into my CD/RW drive the game doesnt start. If u put it into my DVD-ROM it works perfectly.
PS: I do not have the DVD version of the game (I have 3CD's):p

same problem, tried reinstalling, no fix

systematically started deleting con files in the mydocs\bf2\profiles folder after deleting audio.con the game runs. :)
