Performance problem

Hi i really could use some help im having terrible problems with bf2 ill post my specs first.

p4 2.4
2 gig pc2700
2x80 gig hardrives
x800xl 256 agp aiw
audigy 2zs
ga-8siml mainboard
17inch lcd monitor
4 meg connection
600 watt psu

Ok when I first install bf2 it detects everything low and a resolution of 800x600 with texture medium and I thought this is odd I have a decent enough card. I turned my resolution to 1280x1024 &75hz and put everything else low.

I joined a server and it took around 1 minute it was a 32 man server. The first thing I noticed was a stutter for the first 10 or so seconds then it ran fine but I noticed in firefights or with many people on screen it lagged like hell and noticed my fps was 20 to 30 . When no one is around or maybe a few it runs nice but its just fustrating. Im using the latest drivers for my graphics soundcard and motherboard. Other games run fine but bf2 just slows down so badly and I love the game just want it to work.

I turn everything to performance in the control panel and have installed latest directx I also noticed in smartgart that agp write is disabled and will not enable . Could it be the fact that my p4 isnt good enough?

Assuming you dont have any spyware or any other software problems, your hardware could be the problem. Download CPUZ, it doesnt need to be installed you can run it from the rar. It will tell you some things about your computer, In particular I would like to know what your FSB (under CPU tab) is, and what your memory frequency is.

I have read a couple of reviews on your board and found some areas that may be giving you trouble:

This review says that your mobo/CPU uses a 100MHz FSB that is quad pumped to 400MHz.

This one says the mobo only has an AGP 4X slot.

ah ok so i should look for a replacement motherboard could you help me perhaps see what boards support my cpu.

Ok that cpu-z reads as follows.

P4 Northwood family cpu (is that a celeron :S)

fsb 99.6

bus speed 398.4

no information is shown on the memroy part.

What CPU do you have? Gettinga new mobo may not help if your CPU only support that FSB as well.

Im pretty sure the low FSB speed is your problem.

ok cpu is 2.4 and a friend of mine is going to sell me a p4 2.6 with 8x motherboard for £40 so that should do me? hopefully if not I had my eye on a 3500 amd with motherboard
