    Default controls or bust!....?

Want to use 'G' for anything other than drop kit? Too bad! Want to lose your right mouse button functionality while the command rose is open? Well then I've got the game for you! Not to mention you can't seperate the forward backward buttons between the mouse and keyboard. BF2 is the first series I have ever played that gimps pretty much any control scheme besides the default.

For the love of jebus, please tell me there is a way to undermine the code tied to the default buttons so that I might be able to use something other than wasd.

(I did try editing the controls.con to no avail. Anyone happen to know what the numbers after the Key_<keyname> means?)

      Alright, try these controls:

      1) set the right mouse button to forward.
1A) set any keyboard key to backwards. Note the forward bind dissapears.
      1B) reset RMB to forward.
1C) set backwards to any other mouse button. Note that forward is still bound to the RMB.

      2) set/keep the RMB to forward.
2A) set the command rose to anything else.
2B) while in game, move forward and open the command rose. BAM you stop moving (this wasn't a problem in the first few version(s)).

      3) set the G key to something different (in my case, crouch).
3A) start a game and note that you cannot crouch.
3B) check your controls.con and note that the kit drop/pickup is still bound to "Key_G" even though it says otherwise in the game.

I'm sure there might be other conflicts, but the control schemes I try to use haven't brought them to my attention.

Go to the control.con file. You can do a lot of stuff there, that cant be done ingame.

OH, im guessing you tried that as stated above. In that case, why the **** would you want RMB to forward???

The same reason you (might) use w to go forward. It's probably what you grew up on, and what you feel comfortable with. I've used the same control scheme since the original Quake (the first FPS I played seriously).

o_O The only problem I've had with reconfiguring controls is that you have to manually delete or remap a control if you want to use the button associated with it which, while annoying, is easy enough to work around. There used to be a problem with joystick axis mapping but that was fixed in one of the first patches.

Are you sure you're hitting 'Apply' after you make your changes to save them?

Doesnt sound like whining to me. Im gonna say you are racist against Pokemon.

It justs sounds like he is frustrated by the games limitations on controls, and I say that it seems pretty ridiculous that DICE made the game so hard to work with. The menu is a pos.

Maybe I'm looking in the wrong file or pasted the wrong portions of the key bind within the control.con. Though I can go into the ingame control setup and see G for crouch, and I can go into the control.con and see G for crouch, yet the key does nothing during a game. Given some of the responses it seems possible that a few problems might be on my end (logitech keyboard and mouse conflicting?).

Not to sound like scott (he's a @#$%), but how the hell do you figure out
what's wrong or start constructive changes if you don't bring up some valid and/or tested points. Points that have been bugging me since release, through 3 re-installs, and some of the most retarded patching I've seen in such a high profile game.

                        Re: Default controls or bust!....?

I would try a "reset to default" first ("apply" on each change just to be safe).
Remove "G" from "Pick up Kit" then erase "Left Control" from crouch.
You *should be able to bind it without problems, if not, the line you need to edit is at the very bottom of the Controls.CON file:
