Play a lot of it? Don't know, but I sure as hell plan to actually try it and see if it's more fun than J-10 whore heaven. If it's entertaining I'll play it a lot. At the very least I'll give it a good chance, rather than sitting whining about an OPTIONAL PLAY MODE "ruining" the game for everyone.

this OPTIONAL PLAY MODE was first made available in June 2005
YOU chose not to play it then - why should the whole community suffer because of people like you?

You're dead wrong but I think Chris is a little off base also. Why spawn at another spawn? Maybe in the most severe cirucmstances but generally speaking you can spawn at your spawn that is under siege and easily beat back armor.

For example when I'm MEC side and armor rolls in to Hotel and starts trying to spawnkill I'll usually respawn as an AT (sometimes a Spec Ops or Engineer but it depends...). Sprint for a nice defensive location and begin popping the tank in the treads. If they've got a supply crate I destroy that first and I continue to hit them in the treads. Normally me all by myself I can easily chase off or kill a single tank but when another player on my team is intelligent enough to do what I'm doing that tank is toast for sure. At the very least if you suck you can at least turn and hit the tank with 1 missile (doesn't even have to be in the treads) and if 2 other teammates are doing the same that tank is going to have to retreat or die no matter how good they are. No skill required.. EASY counter.

In fact tanks are just about the easiest thing in the game to counter. They've got to deal with planes, helicopters, AT kits which are a dime a dozen (because of the good guns), mines, C4, C4 Jeeps, C4 traps, other armor and TOW missiles. Sometimes me and one friend will play together as AT. We'll move up MEC Karkand and fire 2 missiles at the same time striking the treads at the exact same moment instantly killing the tanks for the most part. Often times (supplies/commander willing) we'll destroy the 2 APC and tank so fast we'll move UP past the USMC uncap towards the vehicle spawn area and destroy them as they are coming down the road to rejoin the battle. If we find ourselves out of ammo we'll grab that TOW nearby and 1 shot tanks and APCs with it while the other guard against infantry with the DAO-12. It's really just that easy.

Moral of this story is if you spent the time you do whining on the forums about armor learning to adapt and defeat them you'd be having a much more pleasant gameplay experience. That being said I almost never die to vehicles when I play. Grenades claymores and even unpopular weapons such as the PKM kill me far more than any vehicles does.

            Also

Tanks are hardly the ultimate pointwhoring method on Karkand . The ultimate methods are support grenading or medic reviving by far. Tanks are a rare highly limited vehicle and they SHOULD be powerful but fact is every round I play as a medic on Karkand I end up with a MINIMUM of 60 points and more often I'm closer to or even over 100 points. That's in a 12-15 minute round of 64 player Karkand and I've played enough Karkand to know the majority of APC/tanks fail to break even the 50 point barrier. Of course a player can always go medic or support without any limit or fear of not getting the kit/vehicle of their choice. Also while I can get 100+ points in a tank during a round of Karkand I find it far more difficult than doing an equivilent 100 point round as a medic.

Re: how many of you plan to play alot of infantry only

The reason why I spawn somewhere else is that I dont mind a nice small jog, especially when it gives me enough time to set myself up for an angle the cant beat nor trace. I dont want to die in a fight so I take my time to create an advantage. Naturally, if the battle is fierce and my presence is needed, I respawn at a flag with DAO-12 and that rocket launcher, for both flag defense and tank destruction, however, as I said, if it takes me an extra minute to take out armor without harm to myself, so be it. Im a patient motherf*cker LOL.

Off base? Hardly so, just a different approach to a problem.

Maybe off base is a little strong. How about unnecessary? I'm just highlighting the fact that if armor is spawncamping you even on a cramped map like Karkand you don't need to go out of your way to destroy them. People can follow my easy three step method to beat them back every time without fail. Again it goes a little something like this -> spawn, sprint to a defensive location, fire. An example would be spawning with a tank near the flag camping people spawning in the alleyway, sprinting yourself up near the flag area (one example but many possibilites) and raining AT rockets down on the tank from where he cannot retaliate. Then as he retreats low on health send a final rocket right up where the sun don't shine and you've got one dead tank.. easy as pie.

Re: how many of you plan to play alot of infantry only

If there was only one tank then yeh, but when you have a tank and two APCs ALL engineer and they also have supplies next to them, that's not possible to destroy them.

It's not JUST the tanks you are up against, you don't have the green light to go anywhere and shoot at the tanks. In my experaince it's NOT a simple thing to take those tanks out.

Maybe tankwhoring is not the ultimate point whoring method, but sure you die less in it than you die while on foot.

I myself always play as a medic, I get more points than those tanks (even thought I don't try to whore up the points), most of my points come from kills, not reviving or med packs. I usually get -100+ points per round as a medic.

In all my time playing city maps, tanks are the most annoying thing in BF2 (let me correct myself, claywhores are the most annoying, tanks come in next) and I would rather not have them.

I'm sick of spawning and there's a twat in a tank raping the hell out of anyone that spawns AND NOT TRYING TO TAKE THE FLAG - that is pissing me off big time and I'd be more than happy to have those little tank whore boys gone.

I won't be playing on Infantry Only servers..period.

I've never played on a City Maps only server either.

I bought BF2 to get the WHOLE BATTLEFIELD experience.

If I wanted to play Infantry Only, I'd play Counter-Strike.

I totally agree. Karkland was fun when the game first came out when everyone and their grandmother wasn't playing it 24/7. Now, it's a haven for slaughter. Although, I find it a fairly balanced map as far as vehicle vs infantry. I personally enjoy AF maps because of the amount of vehicles present (reminds me of some of the old school BF1942 maps). Infantry only is great, but it's more for people who want FPS action (aka counterstrike). I'll give it a try, but I doubt I play that mode much. But, that's just the type of player I am, I come to BF2 for large scale combat.

Wow, 9 pages of posts and the mode is not even out yet!

Why don't we just wait and see?

I will give it a try for sure. If it means I spend most of my time running between flags then I bet I won't play it very much.

If it means a lot of good CQC then I will play it.

If it is all grenade and claymore spamming then I won't.

                        Who knows?

We will all end up voting by the servers we choose.

I actually got a chance to play AF for the first time online last night, and what a blast! I agree, it really is reminiscent of some of the old BF42 maps because of all the armour combat. Perfect environment for an AT whore such as myself. Plus the maps are gorgeous, and let's not forget it's easily got the best loading music. I'll definitely be playing it more when I get the chance. Operation Harvest is a really cool place for snipers (although you're more likely to come up against a vehicle) because the tall grass is great to hide in. I was right next to a friendly sniper and wouldn't have even known he was there were it not for the nametag.

I wonder, though...once the community is fully segregated into normal mode and IO, will some more servers start running EF maps? I didn't get a chance to play the EF maps for very long and there aren't many servers running them, but they're really perfect for people who like full-on vehicular combat. If only the voices of the Euro soldiers didn't sound so meh. :p

Actually what DICE should do is re-think their angle on BF2142 and instead produce two entirely seperate games - one that's more 'traditional' BF-style with vehicles, and one focused entirely on infantry combat (meaning no vehicles or only transport vehicles and the flags are closer together so walking everywhere is feasable) and make infantry combat itself more fun and balanced. BF2's infantry combat is so random at times that it gets frustrating, although despite that I still have a lot of fun playing SF (when the maps aren't too clay-ed up).

Maybe I'm just too easy to please. :p

As far as i know, it was already stated by DICE that IO mode will not be ranked. so anyone who keeps bitching about points whores can just stop the bitching now. its annoying. just because you suck and cant counter an attack doesnt mean people care =)

EA has never said that, in fact, the last I read officially from them, they were planning on making it ranked.
