A whole lot of this game would have to be reprogrammed, rethought, re-evaluated, rebalanced, and reworked before it would even come close to the best FPS, IMO. If that were to happen, which would practically mean making its own game (call it Battlefield - Soldiers or something), then I would seriously consider playing IO. I love BF2, but the infantry aspect of it is the part that was done the poorest and sloppiest.

dude I agree this game has issues...

Ive never seen a dead soldier get defib'd on a battlefield and he gets up
grabs his rifle and starts fighting again..

Game cant be 100% realistic.. but the aircraft pretty much ruin any chance
of it being even remotely playable for what the game was intended for in
the first place... TAKING GROUND. Sure we get by, but take out the kiddies
with their joysticks and at least we wouldnt be dodging things we have
      NO defense against..

Mach 1.5 jets in a 1.5 square mile map ?? hahahahahaha..

I could go on and on for days with things wrong with this game.. but Im
looking forward to no aircraft for sure. Anyone can bomb reload bomb reload
bomb reload bomb reload bomb reload... blahhhh skilless and boring..

Well I wouldn't really want it to be 100% realistic (considering, if I died once I'd have to throw the game away because I couldn't play it again ), but some things make the game unnecessarily frustrating. Random deviation being probably the biggest factor. I'm sure everyone here who has played this game for any amount of time has had a time where they've gotten the drop on an enemy and been in a perfect situation to shoot him in the back, when suddenly your bullets decide to fly everywhich way but straight, while the enemy spins, drops, and you're dead in one shot. That has very little to do with skill, and just about everything to do with luck. I can see why it was put into the game - that being to make things easier on newbies - but I've always taken a liking to games that rewarded skill more than just dumb luck and in BF2's infantry combat luck is every bit as important as skill. Having a quick aim doesn't necessarily cut the mustard because someone with slower reflexes but who gets luckier with the deviation can kill you. Sure, it still helps to have fast reflexes, but infantry skills can only take you so far in this game while luck needs to take you the rest of the way.

And as for jets, honestly, I don't find them to be that big of a deal, because they cannot pick out a lone infantryman walking on the ground and they don't bomb just any random patch of land on the map. If you stay away from high profile areas, like friendly armour columns or areas with high concentrations of friendly soldiers (which usually will have a UAV overhead) and/or right at your own flag, then jets will very seldom bomb you.

I personally don't have a lot of interest in IO servers, however I'm very glad to see them implemented.
Players will now have the option to play without vehicles and if they really can't stand how vehicles work, they'll have something else to do other than constantly complain in real BF2 servers.

What i was talkin about was in maps like Dalian Plant and Kubra Dam, instead of jumping in tank and driving straight to the flag, we'll now be able to have infantry battles across the planes and forests where armour and planes cannot go or cant be bothered to drive. You follow?

Yes, true I dont have a clue about you as a player, I've never played you. Perhaps I overstepped the mark there and should have addressed it to the armour whores who oppose IO.

If it takes all the stat junkies and point whores out of the games I play on and instead leaves more roster slots for people who actually want to play the game as a team and win I'm all for it, actually. It only riles me up when people try to oppose IO so much that they do their very best to prevent or dissuade others to play it. As much as I like being an infantry, I love Battlefield because of the vehicles. Without the vehicles, it's a boring game. If I wanted good infantry gaming, I'd go play Call of Duty games.

I actually wonder how many IO servers will be running maps other than the city maps (Karkand, specifically) after about the first week or two. Once it's settled in and everyone has a chance to play it and realises it's one long-*** walk from flag to flag with no jeeps and if you die and your SL is dead you have to hoof it a LOOONG way back to a flag on a map like Kubra. I'm sure everyone will try every map and it'll be fun at first because it's something different, but my instincts tell me it will be a passing craze and all IO servers will eventually boil down to Karkand/Sharqi/Mashtuur/Jalalabad 24/7. I could be wrong, though. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Touché. Actually I can still see PlaneWhore's point of view on IO and its overall potential impact on regular servers, but people will play what they want to play, not what everyone else wants to play, so I'm trying to look at it optimistically. It seems there are at least enough people on just these forums alone who will either still play regular BF2 100% or at least off and on with IO that there will still be regular servers going, and as long as there are some good-pinging ones I'm fine with it. I never really did care what impact IO will have on the stats system since I've always felt the stats system was useless beyond anything other than self-evaluation (probably why you were never able to search for other players in BFHQ until they released a patch for it...either that or DICE was too lazy to include it upon initial release, which is more likely, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt ).

Arent they making a vehicle light option, where the guns are taken off the jeeps and tanks/apc are replaced by jeeps.

I don't believe so. That was Harmor's suggestion on it, but AFAIK the only vehicles that are going to be in IO mode are the RIBs.

If all the prone spammers, bunny hoppers, turtleing, dolphin diving, c4 chucking, macro cheating, medic whores etc. etc. all go over to IO I'll be stoked. This'll clean up the real servers I play on.

Infantry and the airfield are the two most abused and retarded aspects of BF2, you can keep 'em.

However when the CSS cheats arrive they might spill over into the other servers, I'd rather they just stayed with IO.

Inf Only servers (Not Stat-pading ones) are a good idea.
EA Adding in the "No Vehs" opain is (I think) good. This is so, no one breaks the rules.

Inf only already verges on stats padding with most who play 24/7 servers only interested in the spm rate, which is highest on inf maps. These players figure the armour on those maps is hurting their scores and want them gone, simple.

To dress it up in any other way is just deceptive (e.g. the armour is always camping them etc).

Couple that with the fact that inf players spammed claymores when they could, then spammed the pkm when they could, threw c4 around like frisbees when they could, etc. etc. and I can't see why ppl want to play with these prone spamming, building glitching retarded macro kiddies.
