Your logic is flawed. Not everyone can counter someone else in a vehicle at any given time. There are limited numbers of vehicle spawns, and other than going with the AT kit there's often little you can do other than run/hide/get raped. And saying that using armour requires skill, is...laughable at best.

Why do you care? Why do you care how we want to play the game? We choose not to play armor, because anyone can sit a a spawn and just shoot tank rounds or sit next to a bunch of crates and shoot into infantry clusters.

I have a friend that always likes to say, "Wow look at me I'm 35-0". My reply is "Wow it must be really hard to stay alive with 6" of steel between you and your enemy."

I think you are all upset cause now you will not have the easy kills. Enjoy the easy kills while you can get them.

Re: how many of you plan to play alot of infantry only

Where do people come up with the idea that everyone will be a medic or that there will be more knife kills? More spawnraping?

There won't be more medics, at least there haven't been on present IO and Beta IO servers. It has been the usual amount.

How would you possible get more knife kills? Do you think that people will be less eager to shoot at you? It won't be K&P, just no vehicles.

More spawnraping? Well that would be quite difficult to do since there is plenty of it now. Especially in the beloved Karkand where so often US APC and tank assume raping positions in the very beginning ... its much easier to take out a camping groundpounder than it is an armored vehicle.

EDIT: And in addition the game is much more quiet ... i really loved that.

          Groundpounders unite!!!

I think IO will prove very popular, therefore turning standard servers into Jets v Jets and no-one else. Ahh the peace and quiet!!!

Your perception of the game is flawed. Not every class is meant to be able to deal with every threat. That's why medics can't take out armour, why assault gets assault rifles while AT gets wimpy SMGs, why engineers don't have a long-ranged weapon, why support isn't useful for running and gunning. If you're being killed by armour and you continue to spawn as a class that can't deal with it it's your own fault. If you run blinding across a street without checking for huge metal vehicles first it's also your own fault. And if you play against skilled players (i.e. players who play intelligently) then it's quite difficult to stay alive in armour. Likewise if you use some teamwork with a few other guys armour is still not a problem. If all classes could deal with all threats equally there would be little point in having a class system at all, as well there would be little point in having vehicles at all if everyone was able to destroy them easily.

 I love listening to Karkand junkies who think they know how to play BF2. Because inevitably in their scenario, the tank is always camped outside the spawn point (Hotel) and getting cheap kills (stupid infantry players that continue to respawn at that same base as medics and snipers despite getting killed by the same tank 3 times in a row). Tanks can only camp stupid infantry players, unless that team is down to their last base in which case your whole team stinks (meaning you'd have lost anyway). I don't get spawncamped by tanks. Period. A tank kills me at one base, I spawn as AT at the nearest base and go after him or wait for him to come to me. I've been killed as I've spawned, sure, but not more than once at a time unless I'm unlucky. And it's just as likely for me to spawn in front of a tank as it is in front of someone with a PKM. Or, if some squad members are in a chopper I tell them over VoIP we have a tank at a given flag and they usually try to go over and dispatch it. You know, teamwork, and foresight, and planning, and all that stuff. Try it sometime, it works!

Dumb down the game? It isnt exactly rocket science now is it? In fact the game is about to get a bit smarter as infantry are now given time to devise new tactics to taking flags without gettin squads broken up by tanks and helicopters. Whole new strategies and battle routes in maps are going to be explored. We'll be using areas we never used before and i cant wait.

And there's just as much skill running a squad on the ground as there is flying a jet. You just cant see it because you are so intent on maintaining the equilibrium of your battlefield universe where you can get easy kills while not having to worry about the possibility that you might get headshotted by a sniper, or ambushed by a squad of assault troops. Oh how unfair, but thats what its all about isnt it? Thats what being an armour whore is all about- the easy way. You cant stand the thought of being bettered on the ground, so you jump in some armour to stack the odds a little more in your favour.

And thats fine, I've played this game a fair amount of time and i know there are many people who think the same as you. It doesnt bother me, I still play the game. I get on with it, it pisses me off sometimes but i get on with it.

So why do you worry, when you wont have to play IO anyway as only a minority of servers are going to be running it? Why do you worry? Is it because people who arent so good in tanks, or who dont like gettin a 40+ kill streak in a jet, might actually be given a chance to enjoy themselves? Is that what bothers you? You cant seriously be saying its because of stat padding, because lets face it, the easiest way to get high scores in the game at the moment IS in a jet or a helicopter. Maybe this is just balancing it out eh? Whatever your problem is, you dont have to play it, you will still have your game intact and playable, so why dont you just leave us infantry whores to ourselves and stop acting like a divine entity who has the right to take away our fun from us.

I'd also like to point out that not once EVER in this forum have i blamed DICE for anything. Its you who has the problem with DICE not me.

Don't misunderstand me, I am well aware that intelligent players can both deal with armor and that teamwork > all. The problem for me is that I enjoy infantry fights above all else, and the game doesn't currently allow that. The balance argument is also flawed, since any infantry class can more or less kill another class, some a little better than others perhaps. But the disparity between infantry classes and their ability to kill armored targets is too large.

It's a nice dream to say that you should have a well-balanced squad, but it's not realistic all the time. You can't always have a squad that's able to handle every situation. A squad with less than 2 AT guys is going to get raped by any competent driver. A squad with more than 2 AT guys is going to be less effective against another squad of infantry. What IO mode gives us is the ability to have infantry squads more focused on taking out other infantry, and not worrying about vehicles. This will honestly bring more skill to the table, as teamwork and personal skill will be more influential.

I understand that in a perfectly balanced scenario, a squad would have armor/jet support and go up against another with the same support. But this goes back to my original statement that balance will never be achieved there because of the limited number of vehicle spawns. Unless they change the game so that vehicles are unlimited, make infantry-only mode, or create maps where infantry can fight w/o vehicle interference, it will never be truly balanced. I'll take the one about to be released

New strategies and battle routes? Do tell! I'd love to hear them! Where exactly will you be able to go in IO mode that you cannot in regular mode? The only place I can think of is predictable routes and wide open areas like the middle of streets. Are you truly looking forward to running down the middle of the streets that much?

Actually it doesn't bother me that people want IO mode. There are enough people that don't or won't play it to go around, so as long as there are still servers (hopefully with decent ping) running regular mode it won't really bother me. If it takes all the stat junkies and point whores out of the games I play on and instead leaves more roster slots for people who actually want to play the game as a team and win I'm all for it, actually. Still doesn't mean I can't jab at someone who says something along the lines of:

I will definitely be playing it, but its a shame non of you air and armour whores are gonna be there so i can kick your *** on the ground.

I do see your point, but I think you're overestimating a skilled AT trooper. You really don't need much, if any, teamwork to be able to take out a single tank so long as you have the advantage of terrain. And remember that anyone can spawn as AT, but not everyone can drive up in a tank (unless you're playing Operation Smoke Screen ), so their effectiveness is kept in check by their scarcity.

The 'greatest FPS ever made' has military soldiers jumping 5 feet in the air, can flop on the ground and shoot you with a PKM while in-flight, every encounter begins by pressing Z, random deviation on your weapons that take more luck than skill to 'master', Medics with weapons every bit as good as Assault and the ability to heal someone instantly or bring them back from the dead, and laggy first to third person animations?

A whole lot of this game would have to be reprogrammed, rethought, re-evaluated, rebalanced, and reworked before it would even come close to the best FPS, IMO. If that were to happen, which would practically mean making its own game (call it Battlefield - Soldiers or something), then I would seriously consider playing IO. I love BF2, but the infantry aspect of it is the part that was done the poorest and sloppiest.

It's a shame. I can see just how great BF2 can really be but it seems it's makers are too lazy to bother taking it there =(
