Page file, what does it do?

Right, people have been saying that they have been playing without a page file. 1st thing what does it do 2nd thing doesn't windows need alot of page file and when there is non won't your PC go BOOM crackle crackle BOOM.

Page File is an area on you hard disc reserved for information that cant fit into your system memory.

The less system ram you have, generally the more page file windows uses.

It is best to leave page file on becuase if your PC runs out of memory the applications and games you are running will crash.

If your system doesn't uses lots of RAM then it isn't a problem right? I removed some services that booted up and don't have lots of services running while playing games..

How much performance will you get when you disable the page file so your system only has the amount of RAM that is on your system to use?

Windows uses the Pagefile even with 4 GB RAM so its best to set it to like 1GB and 4get it.

I have heard that it is best kept on its own partition, double the size of how much ram you have, i have a large hd so i can spare a 4gig partition on it for pagefile.

Yes in theory it may run a bit faster due to it not being fragmented by other files stored on your computer. In reality I doubt if you would notice the difference (it would be in milliseconds), unless your HDD really needs defragging

Most PC's use between 200-400Mb of memory for basic windows functions, add a gig and a half for BF2 and then your almost totalling 2GB of memory. For a start BF2 loves swallowing up memory and the higher the graphics settings you use the more system memory you use.

I keep my pagefile and Bf2 on one partition and my C: drive on another . At least for its helps ALOT . My page file never gets moved or fragmented and i noticed it helped with hardrive shuttering i used to get once and awhile . Maxtor 200gb Sata btw
