The X800XT PE only uses Pixel Shader 2.0 so it wont display any of the nice shaders (BF2 uses 3.0). I would say if you are going to get a new graphics card, get one that has Pixel Shader 3.0 so you get the most from BF2 and the up comming BF2142. Plus if you do get a better GPU (whatever one you get) you will have to get more ram to go with it.

Pixel Shader 3.0? Meh. I dont miss them.

Guess it all depends if you're a hardware slut or just someone who wants to play the game at a good framerate without spending a ridiculous amount of money for a few extra bells and whistles...

              Or get-

              AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Dual CPU
              7600 GS 256MB
              1.5GB DDR2 Dual Channel RAM
              Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS

and run the game on ALL high with 70FPS for most of the time, and 50 FPS minimal, and 150 FPS max. :)

well hes not looking to spend much so

512mb more of RAM (stops you from waisting your life away for maps to load) and much less stuttering after you load the map

and if you can afford a little more get a decent graphics card anything lower than a 6600gt would not really be worth it

the 512mb on the card is a complete gimmick, no point in having that much memory on a low- to mid-end card. An x1600 may run the game at medium, but I doubt high. An x1600xt on the other hand, probably could run on high, but I don't know if they make AGP versions of that card. How much are you willing to spend on this upgrade?

$350? You will get something decent with that.

A gig of this dual channel ram with sweet timings ($99.99), if you get this get rid of you current 512Mb and run the new ones in dual channel.

                        Or

                        This 2X1GB kit for £179.99

Unfortunatly you cant get the X1600XT in AGP you can only get the Pro version

                        ATI 100-437510 Radeon X1600PRO 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Video Card $182.99

Other cards that may be worth a look:

                        BFG 6800GS 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card $164.99

                        XFX Geforce 7600GS 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Video Card $153.99

                        eVGA Geforce 7800GS 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card $269.99

Personally I think the 2GB RAM and the 6800GS is tempting. Enough ram to staisfy, and the 6800GS is shader 3.0, it has a 256bit memory bandwith and GDDR3 (X1600pro and 7600GS only has slower 128bit/GDDR2) so it will be good at running high levels of AA.

thanks for showing the cards, yeah the 6800 and the ram looks tempting, but do i need to change the power supply? i dunno how many watts im working with at the moment, can i run bf2 in high with the 6800?

What is your current PSU? It may be enough.

I dont know if you can run on high, but it would have a better chance than the X1600Pro. Here is a Toms harware guide 3DMark 06 SM3 1024X768 test.

Its isnt directly comparable to BF2 performance, but it gives a rough indication.

the geforce 66o gt is not a bad card at all, i use to run that for a couple months till i built my new system that blew it away. only problemthat kinda annoying but you'd get use to it was that as u walk in bf2 u'd pasue for a moment and continue, but ithink that was cuz of my board and low memory
