I don't buy the argument that IO is stat padding since currently you can achive a much higher KDR by armor and air whoring. If the game was balanced then players of equal skill would be able to score equal KDRs regardless of whether they ground pounded, armor whored, or flew. On an IO server everyone will be on the same footing and those who do run up high KDRs will truly be l33t.
It used to be considered stat padding by EA and the RoE to remove vehicles from the game, so in a way it still is. But that's neither here nor there.

And what I'm getting at is skill has less to do with the infantry combat than luck. Even fatal1ty can't make his AK101 bullets not deviate. All you can do is aim and pray that your luck holds up. If you're relying on luck for whether your bullets hit or not then much of the 'skill' portion has been removed from this game.

As for high KDRs on foot, that's a joke. The stats, crappy though they are, still differentiate between kills made in a vehicle and those made with infantry weapons. Moreover, if you have a high KDR on foot it doesn't necessarily mean you're good, it could mean that you play on stacked teams, or you hang out with a bunch of medics all the time so you never get truly 'killed' without being revived. Someone could kill three people and die once and get a 3:1 KDR. Someone else could kill four people, but get brought to critically wounded five times, but get revived four of them and he'd show as having a 4:1 KDR. But which one of the two is more 'l33t'? The stats would have to track how many times you get revived in order for infantry stats to mean anything at all, and it would also have to break them down by individual weapon - L85 and G36E are totally different animals, as is the G3A3, so to lump them all into one 'Assault Rifle' stat is ridiculous. The G36E is a lot easier to use than either of those two guns, and there's no way to tell if AR kills were gotten using an M16 or a G36E. The stats system, to be worthwhile for anything, would have to be totally revamped, as would the rest of the infantry system.

My contention is that the stats system as a whole is so flawed that it has no meaning and therefore to oppose IO because it will distort the stats makes no sense. It was garbage before IO was allowed, it will be garbage after.

Well yes, I agree with you there wholeheartedly, but you mentioned people in IO who will have high KDRs being the better players, and that won't be any more true then than it is right now, simply because of how flawed the stats system is. Having a high KDR in IO mode won't really say much about how good you truly are, only how many medics you hang out with, much the same way that having a high KDR in armour now doesn't mean you are good in it, you could just be picking on people that are too thick to avoid it and allow you to spawnrape them. The effect on the stats system is the least of my concerns when it comes to IO. I'm just having a difficult time understanding why some people would buy a game like BF2 and then be happy that they can play a mode where all the vehicles are removed, leaving them with nothing but a boring, unbalanced, sub-par FPS with a flawed ranking system. But, to each is own, I suppose. :hmm:

I mean that there is a more level playing field on an IO server. There's no air->armor->infantry food chain. It's not perfect but I feel there's less distortion in an infantry-infantry comparison then with other comparisons.

IO may well turn out to be boring. So is single player but I find an occassional round to be therapeutic. :)

I know what you mean. I've yet to have a CTD, 'Connection problem', or lag in single player.
