    BF2s biggest problem..

    heres the problem..

the WHOLE problem with what everything EA does and has done..

    RANKED servers.

MANY other games I have played keep stats.. Was there ever a need for
them to be 100% official stats? NO. And lets face it, stats in this game
MEAN NOTHING. ZERO. NADA. NILCH. I slaughter people who are ranked
higher than me all the time, and I get slaughtered by people who are less
    than me..

If we didnt have this RANKED SERVER bullcrap, we would all be enjoying
new map after new map after new map, and new wep after new wep after
new wep, allllll time time. Modders woiuld release packs (as they have now..)
that we could all play and not have to worry about getting our stats counted.

Its a total joke, if you ask me. I have no clue what EA was trying to do when
they came up with this ranked server b.s. other than possibly making a buck
or two off of it.. OR getting game server companies to give them FREE servers

Take Unreal Tournament for a GREAT example. UT is the most played online
player game of all time. BAR NONE. Sure its a differant game, but thats not
the point.. its a team first person shooter just like BF2.. but there are
thousands and thousands of maps for this game.. skins, vehicles, mods, weps,
etc etc etc on and on and on.. keeping the game FRESH...Giving the players
choice after choice every day..all the while it keeps your stats. And the stats
that UT keeps are WAY more detailed than EA has provided.

The RANKED SERVER is a disgrace to this game..The whole system should be
done away with, and let people play differant things anytime they wish.. A
stat system can still be in place and even ranks at certain levels.. just like
    in other games..

In all honesty, the ranked server is a scheme to get EA more money and
free servers. We've all fell into it..its a first in the gaming industry (that I
know of..) having differant types of servers.. and we pay MORE for it..
i.e. ranked servers cost more to rent than unranked.. EA just wants to
release map packs every now and then to get some more money out of us
all the while we play the same ole maps over and over and over the same ole
way, the same silly server rules.. i.e. (12 more players before game starts..)

Ive ran at least 100 game servers in my time, and never have I seen anything
like this in all my days.. it should be done away with..

will it? of course not. EA wants to get 10 bucks from us every couple months
so we can get 2 new maps, 2 new weps, and we can all feel tingly inside
about having something differant to shoot...blah...all the while, 50 new maps
for other games come out daily..all free, all customizable, some good some
bad, but the choices keep their game fresh.

I wish EA would take a page from EPIC and learn how to really release a
game...really support it...instead of trying to coherse everyone into buying
more and more of the same ole crap every 2 months..

And for God sakes, hire some decent programmers.. 1 year to fix this amount
    of bugs is ridiculous.

I like the game, but it sure doesnt stand up to others Ive played when it
comes to longevity. I find myself playing this game less and less every day,
and games that I bought 3 years ago more and more..

The one thing that is missing from your comparison of UT and BF2, besides the obvious, is that custom content is downloadable in UT. Just like CSS, maps are 6 to 8 MBs. Skins are a few hundred KB, weapons are a few hundred KBs... etc etc etc on and on and on. The small size of these little pieces of content allows a player to join a server and downlod the content in a matter of minutes and be ready to join the game without ever leaving the game.

BF maps are 18 to 60 MB. Mods are several hundred of MBs. This custom content is not downloadable on the fly, like UT and CSS. Some of this content could take hours to download, especially if it is uncompressed, and would drag the server's bandwidth down to a crawl. Imagine 3 people joining a FH2 server and (if it is anything like FH for BF42) having to download 1.2 GB of content from the game server. Oops... Everyone's ping jumps to 300+ and it is game over.

I am not saying that Dice made a good call in their design of the game (so that maps have to be 60MBs, unlike Joint Ops maps which were a only a few hundered KBs), but that is how the game was built. It has nothing to do with the ranking/stats. It just isn't practical.

    There's my two cents....

Your right about EA sucking us dry of our hard earned money, but they have this set up so that there is no way to fight them on an even playing field. You have to play by their rules or not at all. You got to know when to hold em and when to fold em. Sorry to say it but we lost to them upon our original buying of the game. All we can do is hope and plead our case, waiting for things to get better. But good luck in your seeking of justice.
