cant play, why?

i gave up, i tried everything

problem is, i cant play on ranked or with punkbuster servers
when im clicking on "join server" the game crash to desktop.

I CAN PLAY, singleplayer, noranked/nopunkbuster, and when i create local game, then is all ok!!

tried to update punkbuster, reinstal game, remove everything about the game and install brand new!, new video drivers. NOTHING helped!!


im not sure but it was happend after i've installed OPK mod v0.15, a few days ago i could play on 0.1dv of OPK, and classic version, wasnt problem.



what else can i do?? except reinstall system!
please help me

Welcome to Patch 1.3, where DICE in their infinite wisdom fixes this problem two days later, but then refuses to release a hotpatch all summer long.

If you have never been able to join a server, then maybe something else is wrong. But I do know that I can have sessions where I'll CTD 20 times in a row (literally!), but then go days or even a week without a CTD. <shrug>

Best bet: Wait until Patch 1.4 is released (supposedly tomorrow).

Try going under your my documents folder and then delete the bf2 folder. This basically deletes user specific files like your keyboard config etc. By deleting it, it forces BF2 to update everything, shaders included. I was crashing to the destop like a madman, then I deleted that folder and all was well.

You will have to setup your controls and other settings again, but hey if it works, it's worth it....

That's pretty much what reinstalling 1.3 did for me. I had to...well come to think...I did'nt have to reset my controls, just the Audio and Graphics.

Hmm, don't get mad but I think you should try reinstalling 1.3 again.

I had the exact problem two days ago.

Here are some tricks helped me solve some problems, but I never had the CTD's.

1. Download this miniiame:

Create a folder named BF2 or whatever, put the BF2 shortcut there, and the two files came in the rar file.
Download Daemon Tools:

Create 1 virtual driver with DT, then mount the MDS (NOT MDF) with DT.
Eject your BF2 disc, and try playing. This is totally legal and wont harm nothing.

2. Turnoff VOIP in the options

3. Slelect SOFTWARE mode in audio options.

4. Create a server, open console and write:
pb_sleep 500
make sure the 20-500 message is up
and than
pb_writecfg
to save your settings.

5. Before logging in, go to task manager and set High priority on BF2.exe.



Try not to click Join-Server, but check the Auto-Join option, and it should automatically enter you to the server after a minute or so.
Tell us if you get CTD also like that.
I have a good feeling this should work, because it's automatic.

Don't use ****'s, any program named prioaff, any program named TuneXP and other software ment to tune xp ( :P ). This causes severe probs.

Hey, I have a special gift to destroy everything I touch, that includes computers, games, software and hardware.
You don't wanna know how many times I screwed up my system, and BF2 especially.

I spend 5+ hours a day playing BF2, I own this game for over a month now, and I have to make a "fix" procedure over... hmmm... 15 times? H-E-A-D-A-C-H-E.
Luckily I'm also pretty good at fixing stuff.

Google things.
Register as much as forums as you can, read about things. Read the stickies, read the comments, perform a search. That solves everything, especially when your problems is not one in a kind - always be aware that even in the rarest wierdest problem, thousands of people already got that one too and solved it.

try uninstallilng bf2 and then reinstalling also try updating ur punkbuster

I noticed I was having problems with crash to desktop when I was using a .bat file to launch BF2. When I started the app directly this went away.
