    No time for strategy?

It occurs to me that there is no time to plan anything out as a team in BF2. Usually when the game starts, everyone runs to a vehicle (usually all to the same one) and drives off aimlessly looking for kills.

I think there should be a couple minutes before the game starts to discuss the plan to win (squad 1 go here, squad 2 blow up this, etc.).

The commander should be voted in and then assign vehicles to squads (squad 1 gets jets, squad 2 gets a transport heli, squad 3 gets a couple jeeps, etc.).

All players on the winning team should be given a 2x bonus to motivate the team to win. Or maybe just a 10 pt. bonus or something.

    doesn't this make sense?

This is a good idea, everyone rush for vehicles and kills,i rather caps and teamwork its more funny,if i want kills i just play small karkand with AK or G3
and bonus?best squad and the side which wins should get some but 2xscore is too much

Ya way to many points, but since points are useless anyways might as well to encourge teamwork.

New gamemod maybe? Call it "Plan and Conquer"?

But then there is that idiot that wont assign anyone a vehicle.

But if you get a good one, The best sniper/medic ETC should get a 10 points bonus, Along with everyone in the top squads. And the Gold/Silver/Bronze 10 also

        very good idea.

eh..one of the reasons why i like karkand so much is al lthe action...do u really want to sit around and plan? plannign should be left to the commanders and he tells wat the squads should do...and voting in..not the best idea since new players prob wont be voted in and yeah.

there was this show about like cops and swat and stuff and they spend like the whole show planning and plotting alternatives and all that crap and then like the last 5 min was the action, which wasnt that much since the guy surrendered so easily

I love to bring SWAT4 as an example where theres a pre-round time usually set to 1:30 minutes. This gives plenty of time to set up a basic opening move strat. Very good thing.

                  Chael:

Unfortunately I don't think you'll ever find that on a ranked server. Sure there are some nice servers with lots of squad teamwork but the ranked factor will always get in the way. Dice has just set certain criteria for ranked servers and the combination of lack of server control along with the point mentality will always get in the way of full team style strategies.

I think you'll want to look for either a mod/campain site that better suits your tastes of a more strategic battlefield or visit the Tactical Gamer unranked server. On that server there is a 2 minute minimum start timer.(sometimes its extended by the admins) Server rules like every squad leader must follow command orders and every squad member must follow squad leader orders form a command structure that I think produces the team based goals and strategic feel you would be looking for. Just be aware that the server has seen dissapointing population turnout lately so check in on the forums for when you can likely see some decent action. Some days are pretty slow and the server is usually not active outside of US primetime.(late evening) Click image in my sig if I have captured your interest....

Were not talking about setting up strats for 32 players on your team. If its inside-squad only, its for the better. Spawnpoints, vehicle picks, first flag to take and so on. Even if its just 1 minute, its enough.

This sounds like not a bad idea, but I'd rather get into the game, hop into a commander or squad leader position and work on organizing the team quickly and getting as much playtime out of the game as possible.

I've always thought there needs to be a more squad-oriented points system, something that encourages work between squads and the commander on public servers.

just up the start delay for each round, commander will get elected, setup squads and then commander/squadlead can mark points on the map for each squad to take/move to/defend and wotnot

Tis the nature of Pub servers....

Having a bonus points system of some type to promote squad play would be a plus but having to plan out a stategy before hand would upset a lot of people who just wanna get stuck in.

Good idea for a mod/rule set

                          Vehicle rush for the win!1!!

Wow, I'm surprised by the amount of feedback.

If the commander was to choose which squad gets which vehicles, then he would have to be voted in. Otherwise the possibility for getting a lame commander is too great.

                            @FBmantis: clicks linky.

I would disagree with that notion of lack of planning. For the most part, many people already have genreal strategies. Those are the people that are always capping flags when the rest of the team cannot get past a first flag.
