Should I get the game with those settings, is it still fun to play on low settings?
also i dont want to be lagging so would the game do that.
I don't think merlin knows what he's talking about, maybe he's wanting to justify spending money on a system like his. A 6800GT is a fine card, I would expect you to play with everything at least on medium with a decent framerate, with some effects on high. I would DEFINTELY get the game with your machine.
I have played BF2 with a 9700 Pro (which is half as good as your card) on mainly medium settings fine.
You need not spend a fortune to get this game running well, but maybe get another GB of ram when you can?

Well, your the one thats wrong. His CPU is going to really bottleneck his GPU causing him to play low/medium and maybe medium.

It wont bottleneck to that extent. His cpu is fine, his gpu is fine, but he could probably use a bit more ram to help the stutter in begginings of games, but itll play nicely.

Straight back at you dude

That is exactly what I was thinking.
The athlon XP 2400+ will only use a 166FSB so in dual channel the best memory speed he can achieve is 533MHz, well below current PC's. I have seen a Radeon 9800 in an XP 2400 and it ran like crap, next day we put the 9800 in a P4 with 800MHz ram and the card ram perfectly. Big graphics cards need lots of memory bandwidth.
EDIT - Actually its a 133 FSB, Even worse!
Also one of my other mates has almost the exact same system ATM (except my mate has 2GB of ram), a far better comparison. He has to play on mostly low and does not get a great FPS.
I really dont mind graphics I just hate it when the game starts skipping, and when it slows down when there lots of action going on. Will my pc do any of those?
Does any one have pics of the game on low settings?
btw i upgraded my HDD 2 days ago from my old 7200RPM 40GB ATA 100 to a SATA II 80GB maxtor drive and i went from being one of the last in the server to one of the 1st just because of the "verifying client data" that just takes a few seconds now.
HDD not on topic but would just like to say that fast drives help alot in the loadings hehe
