I know there are a lot of problems people have in this game with "whoring" and that the game can seem like more of a deathmatch than a conquest game. A recent post here about people being "flag shy" prompted this thread. Here is my idea:
Have the unlocks and promotions tied to a certain number of wins.
I'm not talking about a win to loss ratio (we all know the problems with that from the War College Ribbon). I mean suppose that to get the first unlock and/or rank you must have 100 wins. This would make players more in tune with the team winning and not just the individual "winning" with lots of points. You want the next unlock sooner? Start helping your team win by capturing and holding flags instead of finding a place to camp with a tank, for example.
It seems I've been in many games where the number one player on our team has over 100 points or some ridiculous number of kills and yet my side loses the game. In my experience ticket bleed from flag control is more effective in winning a game than straight kills. Of course the programmers didn't emphasize this on maps where there is no ticket bleed or getting the tickets to bleed is almost impossible (like where you need 8 out of 10 flags before the ticket bleed STARTS).
Just as a joke: I can just see some guy with hundreds of hours replying to this thead with "what's ticket bleed"?
Anyway: What about my idea about unlocks and ranks being tied to wins (remember not win to loss ratio but just a count of wins)...?
