    Re: Flight Simulator X

When I first booted it up I was thoroughly unimpressed. The virtual cockpits were a huge improvement, but aside from that not much seemed new. The flight model seemed to be extremely simplistic. I was really disappointed that they hadn't sharpened up the terran. Only the terrain directly beneath you is high resolution, everything else is extremely blurry for my tastes.

But after fiddling with it for awhile it actually is pretty neat. Still not sure whether or not to get it, but I will be keeping my eye on it. The graphics are a little better than I was initially thinking they were, but the terrain still bugs me.

So when the full game is released, im guessing there will be some sort of free fly, but will the terrain be to scale? like it really take a couple hours to cross the coutry, and so on? I thought that was how 2004 was... but idk, ive never oewnd one of these games

That is also what scares me. If this DX10 hype is all it is, I was just screwed. A month ago I bought a 7900GTX, and now I'm supposed to buy a new ultra-expensive card just to use DX10. There is not even any DX10 hardware in development as far as I know.

There is free fly in the demo, you are just restricted to a small chain of islands. Everything is supposed to be to scale also, I can't imagine it not being.

These games have always been kind of iffy to me. On one hand you have the best simulation of practical flight, but the other hand I want to boom through the skies in an F-16 or Bf-109 and shoot down other planes.

            Completely Off Topic Alert!
I Got bored and made this last night.

as far as i know ATI and Nvidia havent shown any info on their DX10 for marketing reasons, so ppl keep buying their last cards bw the spitfire is so cool

                        Here's how an 128MB X700 fares with 512mb ram at 4AA/AF, all about 5fps:

Yes everything takes place in real time using real distances.

A flight from Little Rock to Baltimore in FS 2004 takes the same amount as the real flight did (+/- 2 hours) In the old days I would settle in with provisions, water and food at the desk to take a 747 from BWI to Heathrow and expect anywhere from 7-10 hours for the flight depending on wind conditions aloft.

In today's age of instant gratification I can only imagine 500 souls connected to the server spamming "Bail out!" BF2 style.

I took a 777 from Heathrow to JFK the a few times in 2002 and 2004

Here are some of my screenshots from the FSX demo if anyone is interested:
