    Yet another framerate question...

    Hey guys,

i was just wondering why ppl are getting a higher framerate than i am with older hardware....here are my specs...

Amd Athlon XP 3000+ 2.1 GHz (at srtest.com it said my processor is 2.1 GHz rated at 3.00 GHz...i dont know wat that means)
    Evga geforce 6800 128 mb
    1 gig of PC2700 ram
    Dynex 300 Watt PSU

im getting like 15 to 30 frames (30 frames when nothing is going on and theres no one around) on 64 player servers with:

    Terrain: low
    Effects: med
    Geometry: med
    Textures: med
    Shading: med
    Dynamic Shadows: low
    Dynamic Light: off
    View Distance Scale: 100%
    Texture Filtering: med

and sound set to software on med and EAX off
it drops to 15 or 20 in combat scenes

    is this normal? heh

any way i could raise it without buying new hardware?

im sick of ppl saying that 40-50 fps is unplayable i would kill to get that much...

any help would be appreciated thx!

wouldnt that depend on how the texture option is set?
no diff when i set it to low

how bout the processor? is it becuz its Athlon XP and not Athlon 64?

The model name of the processor (i.e, 3000+) is nothing more than a model name, it has NO bearing on the speed of the processor.
There is a known problem with 1.3 patch that gives the higher end PC users some problems. Have a look in the Support Section for the full details.

i got a intel pentium 4 3.2 gigs, with a gig of RAM and a BFG 6600 OC (core: 345, mem: 544) and i run everything medium with antialiasing at X4.I get around 35- 50 FPS. I moved around my BF2 folder which helped a lot.

              My folder is named: C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\BF21.exe
              before it was Battlefield 2

I have a 2.4Gig P4,2Gig 3200 Ram, Xfi Xtrememusic and x850 pro( oc'd with 16 pipelines open ant GPU@510, Mem @600/1200 ) and running @ 1280 x 1024, everything on medium except Geometry on high and sound on ultra, i get the same problems, BUT when i oc'd processor to 2.8 i got a 20% increase in frame rates which seriously helps, so based on this im guessing its your processor
                Whats your 3dmark 05 score? i get 4800 without CPU OC'd and 5400 with it OC'd

                    MAKE these CHANGES
also, be sure your resolution is set to 800x600x(highest refresh you see)
even turnign off shadows - you will almost double your fps

                    Terrain: low
                    Effects: med LOW
                    Geometry: med HIGH
                    Textures: med LOW
                    Shading: medLOW
                    Dynamic Shadows: low OFF
                    Dynamic Light: off
                    View Distance Scale: 100%
                    Texture Filtering: med LOW

Running a 3.2 with a 9800pro. Ever since 1.3 its like watching a slideshow. About all I can do is lay mines or claymores or command. I cant even walk with out it getting chunky.

the processor you have is a socket A processor(probaly 266fsb or 333 fsb)

i used to have a 2600+ at 2ghz barton core.
                          also i had 1.5 gig or ram(3200) and a gforce 6600gt(agp 128mgddr3)

i played on 800x600 all low for good fps (30-70 depending on the situation)

i upgraded my mobo and processor to a socket 939 amd64 3200 venice whitch has 2000fsb (massive differnce)

i kept my old ram and card and now play on

                          1024x768
                          Terrain: med
                          Effects: med
                          Geometry: high
                          Textures: med
                          Shading: low
                          Dynamic Shadows: off
                          Dynamic Light: off
                          View Distance Scale: 100%
                          Texture Filtering: high

i get 50-90 fps rarly droping below 50fps this i cant complain.
i could turn the gfx up some more but thats how i like to play (no dark area's for me thanks :)

hope this helps you out a bit.

p.s i would upgrade the mobo and chip if you want a performance boost,a new card would help to 6600gt or higher would do.

also get atleast 1.5gig or ram for overall smooth gamplay without stutter.

u go to your bf2 folder and right click and change the name from Battlefield 2 to:
BF21.exe or any name you wish since people believe that windows will treat BF2 differently in a better way
