I'm not sure where to update my HD

First of all, I accidently typed HD. It's my DVD Drive, not the HD :\

I have the problem which the DVD doesn't recognize the disc I insert. So I read in the little book that came with the game that I need to update my firmware, go to your DVD Drive manufacturer bla bla bla.
I have long list of problems I caused my computer with bad hardware updates, and I don't wanna repeat it.
Can you please help me choose which drivers should I download?
Here's my drive:
NEC ND-3550 Dual Layer DVD+-R/W/DL 16X Bulk Black
Preferably official drivers, even if the offer less performance.

Thanks, but I think i'll give up the idea of updating my drive. Even NEC doesn't recommend u to do so.

Is there another solution for this problem? I'm now trying like 5 minuts to open and close the drive in hope it will identify the disc in it.

Hey people, I just found the right update in softpedia.com, updated by the guide, everything works fine.
Except the identification :wall:
I feel so helpless! This is the first time I have nothing left to do / check
I don't wanna say goodbye to little bf like this!! :cry:

PLEASE?!! I tried unintalling the IDE SW Nforce4 drives, as written in the first guide in my sig...
Tried updating my firmware... NOTHING HELPS!!
I feel sick and hysteric!! :wall:
Man sometimes I think my computer hates me. I'm like "inferior" by him.

Please, please! I beg of you, help! I know there are really talented guys here... I got once 30 helpful replies in 1.5 hours.
