I dont really know how to help you apart from saying try a different server... But you've probably already tried that right?Comment

Re: Please Help..."problem with connection"...
I also have this problem, and it happens on all the servers, even servers that I have a very low ping to them.
Sometimes it is just a very long lag (Then it just says "Problem with your connection"), and after a few seconds I can continue playing, And sometimes it continues for quite a long time and at the end I get kicked to the server selection menu with a message saying "connection to server lost".
I know the server is still online when It happens and I also know that I dont have any problems with my connection...Comment

Editor's Note: This information was originally created and belongs to Black Viper We had reproduced it, in large part until the original website returned. As of 3/2007. It did. So go visit Black Vip...
You probably use amd athlon X2, right?
Download AMD ATHLON OPTIMIZER:
Install, reboot.
and before logging in to your use in BF2, use task manager to set affinity to only CPU 0 on BF2.exe.
oh, and go to visual properties, whether it's ATI or NV, (right click on desktop, u know) and look for VSync or Vertical Sync option. turn it off. It just limits your fps and "protecting" your monitor.
Just take a look in those guides, it helped me to solve the "problem with your connection" and "your connection has been lost".Comment

Re: Please Help..."problem with connection"...
all right GBETECH.....so I followed along and adjust my settings where needed. I log into BF2....play on several servers.....and find that it solved about 75% of my connection problems. I still get it once and awhile, but not as often...it seems to only happen right when I go to kill (lol)....you know?
Anyway...what do you know about ports? Should I be manually opening ports or what....could this really be the total problem? I've never had to open ports on any game before...why BF2?
Thanks in advanceComment

Re: Please Help..."problem with connection"...
U know, this what happens to me. I guess it solved us 100% of the conn probs, the other ones we experience are server related.
You are so fu<k|ng right! This is so annoying!! You are like "yeah i gonna rip his head off" and the mother-lag just pops like he timed it. and in the next two seconds you see like 3 flashes of the about-to-get-ripped turning around (you can almost see his :o face), drawing out his noobish gun, and in the next frame you see the sky and "time to spawn...".it seems to only happen right when I go to kill (lol)....you know?
LOL.
edit
for the ports, I just turn off my firewall. You know, firewalls aren't really necessary - I mean who's the sucker to hack a private PC. And for virus prot - You got an Antivirus, I assume (NOD32 is the best). Spyware - adaware, spybot s&d, u choose etc.
I only use a firewall to block some specific programs the access to the net.
BTW, Executive's Diskeeper 10 Professional Primier Edition is so great. I just used it (see http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88599 ) and my machines performance is in the sky.
Tip: If you choose to use it, sometimes it can't 100% successfully defragment the whole partition. I have c:\ = 167gb, d:\ = 50gb, e:\ 15gb, it successfully defragmented c and e, and d finished 70% defrag. so I re-defragmented it two more times (the second time take 1/5 the first, third 1/2 the second) and it's now complete. Just click "Defragment" again.Comment
