    Problem patching bf2

Hi, me again. I just reinstalled bf2 but now the patch installer says patch failed whenever i try to install it. My C drive is really small and I install my games to my D drive. I only have like 2 GBs of space on C and I cant install the patch cause it needs at least 3 GBs on C for some reason. Help would be appreciated. Sorry to bring up another help me thread but it's really annoying me.

Oh i didnt even notice this forum, sorry. If i reinstall bf2 i'll still need to patch it. I can't patch it becuase i dont have enough disk space on C and bf2 is on D and i always get a "patch failed" while patching.

Are you installing the 1.3 patch? I know they had that problem with an earlier patch (1.12) and it raised a huge outcry so they supposedly fixed in in later patches. I only have about 2GB free on my C drive and 1.3 (full) patched fine. Did you move the game to D after installing it on C? You may need to edit the install location in the registry.

Well, my games and what-not are on D and E drives while my windows files are on C. It installs to D:/program files/EA games/battlefield2 (the patch) but for some reason i need at least 3 GBs of harddrive space on C (which i don't have). Is there anyway to bypass this need for diskspace?

You shouldn't be having this problem with 1.3 (as I said it installed on D fine for me with only 2GB free on C). You could try the fix that was found for the same problem with 1.12: edit the registry to temporarily change the location of "Program Files". The usual default is:
                  Code:
                  [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion]
                  "ProgramFilesDir"="C:\\Program Files"
Try changing that to D:\Program Files and changing it back after installing the patch.

                    Re: Problem patching bf2

                    Problem - Patching Failed
                    Cause - System Dependant
                    Fix
                    - The Exact cause is not really known in most cases, some people have more success in patching when using the FULL patches instead of the Incremental ones. In addition, the patch may be corrupt when downloaded so if you have problems try downloading it from several different sites to see if it works with any of them.
You could have faulty RAM, try running a program called Memtest86 to test your ram for errors. Also try removing a stick of RAM from the machine to see if it helps running on just 1 stick of RAM.
There is a possible fix Here which you may wish to try.
Additional information can be found here
It may be caused due to lack of space on the hardrive, look at the next Problem/fix below in bold labeled "Not Enough Space"
The following solutions came from http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13224 , More may become available in due time on that forum.
Check BF2 InstallDir is setup correctly
1.Go To Start > Run > Type "regedit" (without quotes)
                    2. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2
                    3. Then right click on the right hand window and go on NEW string value, then enter InstallDir for the string name and for the value enter D:\GAMES\Battlefield 2 (If String already exists, just edit the current one)
Or where ever you have BF2 Installed.
                    Another thing to try is
Execute Patcher, Choose language, wait for welcome screen, don't hit continue.
go to your documents folder and to this location:
                    c:\documents\YOUR USERNAME\local settings\temp
and look for a folder which looks like {BLAH....} lots of numbers and chars. Go into that folder structure and copy the files in it (e.g. patch.exe, all the files) to a folder where you can execute them (e.g. create a dir named C:\temp)
then open a commandpromt (type "cmd" in run/execute at startmenu) and go to your new created folder with the patchdata. Execute the with the following line (edit to your installfolder location of course):
                    patch.exe "c:\FolderWhereBF 2Is"
                    Problem - Not Enough Space
Cause - Need more space on your System Drive
                    Fix
                    - The patches now require roughly 3GB of free space on your Hard-Drive, it will not usually look where Battlefield 2 is installed but on the drive where your operating system is installed.
But there's a workaround, (Important, Before changing the registry, read Warlord's Warnings just below the contents page at the top of this FAQ)
Open regedit.exe and search for this key:
                    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\ProgramFilesDir
It points to "C:\Program Files" by default. If you change the value to "E:\Program Files", the patch will look for 3000 MB free space on drive E instead of C.
So Change it to look on a Hard Drive that has enough space for the patch to run. After the patch is completed, change the registry key back to what it was before you edited it.
