    you are correct sir!

More ram wouldn't hurt for loading times and such but your problem is your cpu.

I have the minimum 512mbs and works fine on low. I could go to medium but I dont care.

Your page file should be MANUALLY set to 1.5x physical RAM as the MIN and the MAX.

Letting Windows manage your page file is a waste of CPU cycles and can cause VERY choppy gameplay.

Set it to CUSTOM and the Min/Max size should be 1536 MB. 10:1 that fixes your problem or at least helps GREATLY.

Please change this, test it, and report back.

That one core running at 1.83ghz is still more than enough, its way for effience the a 3.0 p4, so the cpu is not the issue here.

In case you dont know how.

            Right click on "My Computer"
            Select "Properties"
            Click the "Advanced" Tab
Click the "Settings" button next to "Performance" (Top "Settings" button)
            Click the "Advanced" button
            Click "Change" button
            Click "Custom" Radio button
            Enter 1536 and 1536 in min/max windows.

            Hit OK/Apply, reboot, try BF2

Ummm no. Maybe for other games but not for BF2. I have very similar specs on one of my computers and there's no way that machine can run the game on high.

After install game sets everything to high by default.
I use omega drivers with AA & AF set to highest setting.
Average about 50-60 FPS even with all that eye candy on.

So i would have though the OP laptop is not enough to run on high!!
2 Gig is the way forward
Same performance witht practically the same rig (except 3.4 ghz, and 3GB), but thats with things running behind like Itunes, TS, AOl, etc.

Anyways I've noticed that RAM seems to be the most vital component, my brother was playing with 1 GB and it was awful but when he got another 512 and the improvement was amazing. He then got a new videocard and it didnt seem to have nearly as drastic an effect.

I dunno, I've got an AMD 2500+ that is actually a 3200+ underclocked to 1.8 ghz, 2 gigs of RAM and an X800 XT video card and I run mostly on high... Its possible.

Ghz are not equal when comparing an Intel P4, Core Duo/Solo, Pentium M, AMD system, etc. A single core of a 1.83ghz Core Duo is faster than a 3.6ghz Intel Pentium 4.

                    Suggestions:
Disable your Page file, Defrag your hard-drive then Set your Page File manually to a fixed 2048mb(minimum and maximum).

Outside of the above, you only other options would be replacing your hdd to a 7200rpm hdd and upgrading to at least 1.5gb of RAM

O'rly? Then why are people over at notebookreview.com running bf2 all on high with a 7900GS and 1.63 and 1.83ghz core duos?

1gb wouldnt run everything on high settings unless its corsair or balistic ram.ur better off getting another 1gb should be ok then!
                        Plus the 7900gs is 10 x better than a x1600

Re: Im So Pissed at EA

Actually my RAM is corsair, running at 667mhz.

I wouldnt say 10x better more like 3x but an X1600 does hold its own, considering the fact that people with an x1400's are reporting they can run bf2 all on medium, and the x1600 is twice as fast as an x1600.

Ok, I have set my paging file to 1536 as you said, im gonna go test it out.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this yet but I seem to remember DICE developing the game?

EA is the big name, so they are the scapegoat.....

It's like blaming the mayor for the actions of his police department...

Also, a Core Duo is not the same as a Core 2 Duo, so that is still old CPU architecture. It should still work without the stutters though.

Does it have speed-stepping support? If so, you could consider turning that off and forcing it to operate on "high" all the time.
