        I'm having the exact same problem. Minutes into the game i loose my connection to the server. Phew, at least i'm not the only one.

        It's not the typical desktop crash, it will just put me back to where i initiated the server. For me that would be the favourites tab.

          Re: Connection to server lost in 30 secs

          Try different servers. I have this same problem (ever since 1.3). But I noticed it was inconsistant. Sometimes I could play for an hour or so before the lost connection, other times maybe 5 minutes.

          I too thought it was my connection or maybe my mobo built in 10/100/1000. Then I found a server (Van Tech) that this problem doesn't seem to happen with. I could play as long as I wanted and I would never loose my connection. Then I would leave the server and get on one I knew I had problems with in the past, and I would loose connection.

          I believe this is a bug associated with the patch for servers. Hopefully it will be gone after 1.4. If not maybe 1.9

            Re: Connection to server lost in 30 secs

            I have the same problem pretty much but i'm networking.. There's 3 computers. Mine my wifes and my daughters. My wife don't game. But i've been trying to play on mine and my daughters at the same time and not having much luck. First off i'm very advanced with computers but networking is a little sketchy when it gets way technical but i'm better than most. I work for Charter cable so i've been able to troubleshoot much further than most. To put it straight, I've gone as far as giving each computer it's own modem and still when my daughters connects it we both lose connection or basically lock up until it says You have lost connection to the server. I can play fine by myself but as soon as she joins we both lock up. I have tried 3 seperate routers all of which i know work perfectly fine. I've opened all ports specified , put myself in the dmz whatever on that end. I've cloned mac address , assigned ip addresss manually ,called tech support and ping and traced my connection as well as other tests and they don't think its on there end. The crapy part is it's so sporatic it's hard to figure out. THe other night i thought i figured it out and we played for 2 hours in the same room. Next day, we couldn't play at all int eh same server.. instant lockup. Today I've tried playing in seperate rooms and it works just fine but could change after we change servers again... so I'm coming to the conclusion after 2 weeks of researching that it's somethign to do with the 1. 1.3 patch or 2. the servers themselves. CHarter only gives 1 ip address so it may have to do with 2 of using 1 ip and the server not liking it or the configuration of the server or something.. I"m losing my mind though.. it's no fun if we can't even play in the same room. I wish i could find a permanant solution to this.. maybe 1.4 but I can tell you 1 thing.. it's not my router or it's settings or anything hardware related.. All this used to be perfect when i had Cableone internet. never had this probelem.. but that was also before 1.3 patch as well..

            EDIT: Seems to have no effect after trying several times now if were playing on different servers or the same server. Seems as it's just random just like posted above.. keep trying till one works i guess. .. pretty lame.. Specially since paid almost $100 for 2 copies of this game that works .. sometimes.

              Re: Connection to server lost in 30 secs

              Sounds like the same deal here.

              I can get around the CTDs on entering the game by hitting Esc rather than clicking "Join Game", but connection problems that started with the 1.3 patch make this pretty much unplayable - sooner or later I get dumped.

              Also get some freezing/lagging moments with 1.3... and the eventual disconnect, sometimes with a "There is a problem with your connection" notice.

              Everything was fine up until 1.3 in basic BF2 and the addons, this is the only software that's having any problem, no system changes, etc. I tried using the full 1.3 patch, and a manual PunkBuster update... no change.

              I hope the next patch fixes this, whenever it gets released.

                I as well Papa.. punkbuster and patch installs were the first things i tried way back when.. seems like forever i've been dealing with this.. Just got done playing for 20 minutes.. before that 5.. before that.. couldn't even play .. before that.. an hour.. it's all hit and miss and doesn't seem like any server is fool proof.. Wonder how many people are still playing the 1.22 or whatever it used to be..

                  Re: Connection to server lost in 30 secs

                  Still seem to be a good number of 1.3 servers out there, so this must not be a universal problem.

                  The kids are mad about this, since they play(ed) the game a lot, but the wife isn't...

                  For now, I just keep checking back to see if the next patch is out yet.

                    Well i reverted both our computers back to the 1.22 patch and since have yet to crash. Granted there's only 2 servers to choose from neither one results in a lost connection. I am now 99.9 percent convinced it is the 1.3 patch. Just everytime i'm convinced it's something it turns out to do it again right after saying so.. I beta tested 1.4 and it still crashed our computers but that was in the beginning of the beta testing.. hopefully it gets better before the release..

                      Re: Connection to server lost in 30 secs

                      All of this stuff is happening to me. I'm so frustrated. I even started a new favorite list for just servers that didn't disconnect- but that list is shrinking daily. Servers that didn't disconnect me and have VOIP are still on my favorite list, but I think I have 2 servers now. Sunday I wanted to play from 3pm until whenever... I stopped playing at 6pm, because I never was able to finish a game. I disconnected back to the server menu so many times!! then when I click back into the server, it still shows "failed to connect"

                      Figured a way around that, I just clicked on BFHQ tab to refresh, then went back to multiplayer and found the server and connected. 5 minutes later I'm disconnected again. MY BF2 woes. I think i'm going to stop playing online- it just a waste:evil:

                      oh yea, how about going back to 1.22 ?? I'm really surprised to see that only 2 servers are alive

                        Re: Connection to server lost in 30 secs

                        This is just obscene, if I don't get disconnect when i click on a server in the list, then as soon as i've connected, and verified client data, poof, disconnected.
                        I'm seriously considering quiting BF2 and finding something else less buggy to play.

                          Lol you get about 2 topics about this problems per day.
                          If you're using Athlon X2, try dl'ing AMD Optimizer from amd.com, and after installing and rebooting, activate the game, and when u have the login screen, press CTRL+ALT+DEL, right click on BF2.exe, and set affinity to CPU 0. (Unceck CPU 1).

                          If you do not have athlon x2, don't do these steps, it won't help.

                            I put this to EA support, giving the details of the problem and my computer... and how I had no problems prior to 1.3, and no problems with any other game/software.

                            The response:
                            ______________________
                            <quote starts below>

                            Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts. I’m sorry for the difficulty that you are having with Battlefield 2.

                            Please try these troubleshooting steps one by one and see if it resolves the issue:

                            You can try running the game in windowed mode and see if the issue persists or if there are any errors that appear while running the game:

                            right click on the BF2 icon then highlight and click on properties. Then you will see a new window.

                            "C:\...\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe"

                            Add this line after the last quote:

                            +menu 1 +fullscreen 0

                            Take notice that fullscreen normally is set to 1. Changing this to 0 forces the game to run in windowed mode.

                            You will need to lower the Hardware Sound Acceleration setting on your computer to "none". To do this, follow these steps:

                            · Click the Start button in the bottom left hand corner of your Desktop.
                            · Click on "Run".
                            · Erase any text already in the run prompt.
                            · Type in: dxdiag
                            · Click the OK button.
                            · Select the sound tab at the top of the tool.
                            · Set the Hardware Sound Acceleration Slider to "none".
                            · Click "Exit" in the bottom right hand corner.

                            Make sure that you have closed any programs or tasks running in the background as sometimes one of the programs can conflict with the game. Background applications such as anti-virus programs are often the cause of conflicts.

                            · Hold down the Ctrl, Alt, and Delete keys at the same time
                            · Click the "Processes" tab.
                            · Click on the gray bar in the middle column that says User Name to sort by user name.
                            · Do NOT select anything for SYSTEM, LOCAL SERVICE, or NETWORK SERVICE.
                            · Click on anything besides EXPLORER and TASKMGR for this User Name or other user names.
                            · Click on END PROCESS
                            · Repeat these steps until only explorer.exe and taskmgr.exe are open for this user profile.

                            Also try to manually disable any anti-virus programs that are currently running in your system prior to running your game as these programs are more than likely to interfere with proper gameplay and/or installation... And more often than not, these processes are not running under your account name. That is why you cannot seem to disable these programs.

                            <end quote>
                            ______________________

                            Long post... but the short version is: "Tried it... no change".

                            Windowed mode didn't do anything for me. Lowering sound acceleration... I'm using an Audigy2 ZS soundcard (with motherboard's onboard sound disabled)... thanks, but no help. Ending some unneeded programs and processes - not a bad idea, but that's not it either.

                            How about this?: "This is a known problem with the 1.3 patch, and will be addressed in the next patch." Didn't get that response, but I'd have felt better if I did.

                              Reported back to EA Support, basicly saying what I said above, and got this reply:

                              <begin quote from EA Support>
                              ______________________

                              "Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts. I’m sorry for the difficulty that you are having with Battlefield 2.

                              If you had installed the full 1.3 patch after you had installed the booster packs, there may be issues with the 1.3 patch, any previous patches and the game.

                              I would suggest that you uninstall everything (Battlefield 2 and the expansions, if you have it installed), download the full version patch and install it in this order to avoid game data corruption when the patches run:

                              Battlefield 2 ==> 1.3 patch ==> Euro Forces ( if available) ==> 1.3 patch ==> Special Forces (if available) ==> 1.3 patch ==> Armored Fury (if available) ==> patch v1.3

                              The most important thing to consider in the above installation axpample would be that the patches must be installed right after you install any booster or expansion packs. The installation order order of the booster or expansion packs does not need to be that exact as long as you apply the full version patch 1.3 right after installing any booster or expansion pack."

                              <end quote>
                              ______________________

                              OK, I hadn't uninstalled/reinstalled in that order - with the full 1.3 patch install repeated after the basic game install and again after each add-on install.

                              Took some time...

                              I've only tested it once so far. Got through a complete round and lost connection after that. Not really conclusive yet... but I'm not holding my breath.
