Help PLz!!

I have what i think is a pretty respectable system:

AMD Athlon 64 4000+ OC'd to 2.52
2 Gb Kingston value ram
250 Gb Wester Digital HD
Asus A8N-Sli premium mobo
HIS X800Xl 256mb gpu

However whenever i play bf2, with all settings on high except the dynamic lightin g and shadow,the res. is at 1280x1024.The FPS is around 20 (peaks maybe at 35 somethimes). I dont know but I think my comp can do better.Can anyone tell me what the problem is.If worse comes to worse, can some one tell me the bottle neck so i can upgrade.

I got the same setup except for GPU

I have 7800gtx 256mb

Im getting 30 or lower sometimes but thats because of 1.3, how did the game run before 1.3?

Yes, BF2 is in general the most system-hogging program that exists :P I'm not sure if there is much you can do except defrag, and lower your settings just a bit.

to tell you the truth I dont remember what Bf2 was like before 1.3 patch in terms of Fps, but I do know that I had a better gaming experience while not having to adjust the resolution to 800x600 to get even 40-60 fps. And PJMAK1 just to tell u thats pretty sweet that we have almost identical rigs


Do any of u kno if I have a bottle neck in my system, I have some sparte cash that i can use to upgrade.

Just curiouse what r yur systems and what settings do u have and what is the fps.

I used to get about 90 FPS before, now max is about 50:cry:

I meen 50 is good lol but Im just comparing :p

You have a pretty solid setup, with my rig (specs below) i play on max settings with about 60-85 fps. double check your drivers on your gpu, make sure you don't have back-end apps bogging down system resources when playing, hows your isp, if anything a clean format never hurts especially for hd performance, is your 2gb of RAM dual channel, get another hard drive and RAID 0 that ish, keep us updated...

the fps range mentioned is pre 1.3 btw, nowadays averaging 50+

My sys in sig.......i followed tweakguide (google it) for BF2 so put a few settings down to medium etc i get between 50-90 fps. IMHO the miniscule amount of extra eye candy afforded by all max setting (over what mine is set at) aint worth the performance hit...........Also i have an Xi-Fi but choose not to have the ultra high sound setting cos of the above (in fact the ultra high setting for sound was the worst system hog of all imo). BTW those FPS are averages, i still get the occasional bog down to 30-40 FPS. Running at 1280x1024 no oc'd.

heh your card is theorectily better than mine but well, i just knocked the resolution down a notch and things work perfectly

your FPS is right for your system
my son has nearly identical, and got the same fps with all on high
as we believe FPS is KING
we turned off AA and shadows and dropped res to 1024x768
and now avg 80-100 fps

HEllo guys I did two things today.First I downloaded the new ati 6.7 driver, and I also found out that bf2's audio was running on software, so I changed it to hard ware and put it on medium. You wont believe how much more fps i get , I can play on 1280x1024 with fps in the 35-55 range. WOW it sometimes peakes to like 90 sometimes. Thats unbelieveble

if there was a sticking point on your system, it would be the vid card. Your CPU and memory are solid.
