BF2 Has suddenly gone slow

Hi All,

I need help. I have been playing BF2 succesfully on medium settings since the game was launched at fairly good frame rates. My specs Are :

P4 3.0 Ghz (Hyper threading)
1.5MB PC3200 Ram (3 x 512mb)
Powercolour Radeon 9800 SE 256mb video memory (Running using latest ATI catalyst drivers)
SATA1 HD with 8mb bufer and fairly fast access speed.
My internet connection is 1mb downstream, 256k upstream. I have tested and verified this. My ping speeds range from 68 to 140ish.:cry:

I was playing BF2 on patch 1.3 fairly well until about 3 weeks ago and now it is chronic. The frame rates are so slow (Both multiplayer & Singleplayer).

I have done the following :

1. Defragged Hard drive.
2. disabled virtual memory
3. Run a battery of memory test over night (results were stable on all tests)
4. Attemted a scan and repair for bad sectors on hard drive.
5. I run with Norton Anti-virus and scan weekly fro viruses. (I have also tried running without norton anti-virus and firewall with no improvement)
6. Manually updated punk buster and reduced the amount of ingame updates
7. Run 3rd party defrag software.
8. Run 3rd party adware removal software.
9. Load tested and benchmarked the video card (using video card stability test- Benchmark came out about the same as other 9800se cards)
10 I have completley reinstalled the game 4 times trying patches ranging from 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4 Beta.

All of the above actions have had no effect.

I thought about soldering a pair of testicles to my PC and giving it a swift kick in the nuts.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Any suggestion no matter how stupid they may seem will be gratefully received.

Try lowering your settings turn off AA and lightening and shadows that would help and keep texture in meduim. Also turn all the application that are not necessary. Never play with Norton and firewall on. hope it helped u.

It probably has something to do with anything you might have installed. I seem to find the sollution to most of *my* problems are formatting the harddrive . It sounds bad, but trust me, you will get much better performance!

my two guesses:
try running spybot s&d scan and a ad-aware scan

and the heat..heat tends to slow down ur game (it does for me)
