I don't play any games with a ping higher than 40.
Otherwise your aiming will get totally fukced up.

Guys..the MINIMUM ping I can possibly get is 30 ms...my connection has a built in 25 ms latency due to it being wireless (my first hop is wireless over about 12 km).

I usually average 50-100 ms. It's DEFINITELY playable. Heck, I'd say it's playable up to 200 ms.

Let's not get carried away here Sure...a <5 ms ping would be an online player's wet dream..it doesn't mean that anybody with a ping higher than that is gonna get owned.

From where i'm located the best ping i can achieve is just below 100..... I usually play with a 130 ping. So for all the people saying anything above 60 is horrible heres a question for you. If someone with a ping of around 150 compared to your superior ping of around 50 collects a better score than you in 1 round, what does that mean??? Do they cheat? Or do you just suck?

it means you came up against some crap players, that likely werent paying attention.
remember high ping also means delayed reactions.
high ping can cause a few problems for a player and it just doesnt make it fun. warping, stuttery players, delay e.t.c
play a pure shooting game like quake 3, CS, cod or something where low ping times really shine, a guy with 130ping will RARELY kill a 30pinger.

i will say tho that because of nerfed guns, high pingers get more of a chance to survive and get a lucky shot on the other guy.

Mine is 100 or so usually and I outscore plenty of people with much lower pings. Humans react within a time frame of 120 - 160 ms, the fastest I've ever been consistently measured to consciously react to something is 110 microseconds, but I was faster than anyone present in the room.

Sprinters like Tim Montgomery set the world record for total reaction time ear to action of 103 or ms... There's a limited return to pings past less than 50 ms IF the data stream is CONSTANT at that rate as the other player will then not be able to beat you by any meaningful amount of time to a human.

logistic equation and limits of human performance 100m sprint

there has been a few time when i've been killed that didn't seem right. i checked there ping and they where around 12.
just checked your stats... you're not that good of a shot.

Re: DIfference between 40 ping and 90 ping?

Played with ping starting up from 30 up to 400. In BF2 its something totally different because there, ping disadvantage can be overcome with using different weaponry.

Up to 50, helo gunners wet dream, infantry players wet dream. You cant whine if you have ping up to 50, no way. You land most shots, and if you dont, start blaming the netcode or the game, or the server.

Up to 150, manageble AND enjoyable, ping doesnt get in the way of the kills. Youll still manage to do damage, enjoy the game and your skill determins the outcome. Up to 150, jets cannons are reasonably effective in ATA, but they are way less effective in ATS, against armor.

From 150 and upwards, things get messy. In different areas of play youll experience serious disadvantage. Jet cannons become useless in ATA combat at about 200 and upwards, at 250-300 you wont be able to damage anything in the air. 3-5 passes to take choppers to black smoke. In infantry, up to 200 is manageble and skill stil determines who wins, but from 150-200 upwards, things get pretty messy. Youll have to shoot a LOT to kill someone.

If Im in a server where I have a ping of 200 and upwards, I only fly helos, with a gunner and fly a jet. I know I can manage then. Ground combat, only when Im on support role, that is, either a medic, or AT.

In SWAT4, its totally playable up until 200, when it becomes drastically worse from 200+...

In Counter Strike, its playable up until 100, I trust my brothers word that he experiences severe disadvantage from 60 ms and upwards.

                    I usually get 50+ ping

I dont really care about it tho, Its playable most of the time

I changed from AOL in the uk and my pinds were ludicrous 200 and well above .

Since i changed to Mad As A Fish it has gone well down to below 80 all the time .

AOL in the UK sucks for BF2

ping has some effect on game play
so does the quality of the host CPU and ram
and the noise on the line etc
sometimes my ping is 120 and the game is great
sometimes it is 50 and it sucks
                        (both to my clan server)

You kids are spoiled. I'm 25 and when I was young playing command and conquer on IPX with a 14.4k modem, or even worst a 9600 baud, then you try to compain ok. 100 ping is fine. 200 is okay but that's the most i would go before saying fuk it.

Ok, so earlier in the thread anything over a 60 ping is unplayable........I questioned this and i get a response saying something like an over 60 ping in BF2 doesn't really matter????? Zipper i really couldn't care less about any other fps shooters especially counter strike. Is this not a BF2 fourm? I'll ask again this time to make things clear for everybody.

What does it mean if a player with a ping over 130 continueously gets gold, silver or bronze while playing BF2 while everybody else on the server has a ping no higher than 60? A) Are they cheating? B) Do all the other players on the server just suck Or C) does it just prove that no matter what ping you have as long as the game is playable ping really doesn't matter?

I don't want to hurt anyones feelings here but if what zipper said (anything over 60 is horrible) was true the vast majority of BF2 players would never get any stars. I'm taking exception with zippers comment because its just a silly statement.

Oh btw i pick statement C.

Well, the ping difference between 130 and 60 is just 70 ms. Human response time is 200 ms (milliseconds). What you see, is just the guy 130 ms guy being just that more skillful than others. From my personal experience (exluding CS, where minor ping differences have a say), you can say ping matters when you and your opponent have a 100 ping difference. Thats more bullets being wasted due to lag, and him opening fire half of your reaction time faster.

Having said that, skill is a major factor which can overcome the ping disadvantage, however, with too high ping, you will just miss all your shots, and well, skill doesnt fix for missed shots in lag.

I ping 200ms to our server and don't have any problems, I regularly kill low pingers as low as 10 or less. I can TV jets flying at full speed as well. Once your use to it, its no probs, it just means leading your shots more than if you pinged lower.

As longs as a server doesn't lag itself then its not a problem up to 200. @ 250ms I notice the difference and its a lot harder and I have played as high as 400 on a server and it was still playable.

Our server never lags so it plays like a lan game for me and as long as you take into consideration about leading your shots its not a problem to carve people up.
