From where i'm located the best ping i can achieve is just below 100..... I usually play with a 130 ping. So for all the people saying anything above 60 is horrible heres a question for you. If someone with a ping of around 150 compared to your superior ping of around 50 collects a better score than you in 1 round, what does that mean??? Do they cheat? Or do you just suck?

Guys..the MINIMUM ping I can possibly get is 30 ms...my connection has a built in 25 ms latency due to it being wireless (my first hop is wireless over about 12 km).

I usually average 50-100 ms. It's DEFINITELY playable. Heck, I'd say it's playable up to 200 ms.

Let's not get carried away here Sure...a <5 ms ping would be an online player's wet dream..it doesn't mean that anybody with a ping higher than that is gonna get owned.

I don't play any games with a ping higher than 40.
Otherwise your aiming will get totally fukced up.

Ping isn't the only variable that makes for smooth game play. A constant and less noisy connection can be more smooth than a lower ping. For example, some of the Australian R2s get about 200 ping to the R2 server. However, since it's on a very nice line, they have no problems playing. Alternativly, we were playing on another server where they were getting much lower pings, but since those pings were jumping all over the place (from 20 to 70), they were all feeling the lag much more.

Myself, I've got a crap computer (still). Ping isn't that big a deal to me. Client lag is still much worse in many cases so I don't really notice much of a difference between 40 pings and 120.

Rarely will I play on a server that exceeds 90. For the most part I play on servers that are below 70. I useally ping about 100 servers that are below 90 and a 1/2 of those are below 70. So I have choices. If I didn't I'd probably play in higher pinged games. The game is very playable at those pings, especially my style since I generally stay away from the full frontal assaults, they bore me after awhile.

I do notice a difference in games that ping over 90. I must be all the elements are just too much for that high of a ping. Simply too much going on, not like older shooters where it was only your position and the placement of shots fired.

It's not much of a a difference, but given the choices available (many of them) , I'll always choose the lower pinged servers, no matter what game I'm playing.

the best ping i can get is 50 and i will not play on a server with a ping over 65. i'm a good shot and i can tell a big difference between 50 and 80. i'm also running@80+fps and a refreash of 120hz.

there has been a few time when i've been killed that didn't seem right. i checked there ping and they where around 12.

    120ping is 56k territory....

although playing games with almost any ping is possible, the higher it gets, the worse your game is, as you are lagging behind. try a game of q3 or halflife/cs and watch yourself get boned by the guys on pings <30 when yours is 60 or more.

i think that means no data avable for that one sec or something happened to the server if you click on it a sec later it will go back up.

Only if they build a new DSL Exchange next to my property line.

Ive seen some of these 0 ping servers too.. half tempted to run a command line ping to see if they are indeed 0.

Ping is the amount of time added on to a packet's total round trip from your computer thru each router on the internet to the server and back.

The more/slower the routers between you and the server, the crappier the ping will be. If you have to hop onto a Sonet and cross an ocean to get to the UK or europe, the pings will suffer even more.

There is a certain amount of time a packet gets to live.

I prefer to be in the low 20's to 60's that way I know everything is behaving rather well.

Now random accuracy, pillow fights and stuff not working??? that is the software problem not mine; and it will become a problem if the situation in the game is unplayable.

Once in a while your 30 ping will give you just enough time to deploy and fire your weapon should you run into an enemy who might be carrying a 120 ping and hasnt seen you just yet.

Good servers give everyone in it accurate time keeping and information on time every time.

    True

Our team had a server in Virigina and I would ping 90-120 and it would take me about 5-6 shots to kill someone. Now we got a server in Dallas and I get a 50-60 ping and I can kill people with the first two shots.
