    Re: Spotting targets

Since I am usually on TS or VoIP, it really does not matter if the red question mark shows up. The purpose is served as the enemy activity is directionally marked. I can always clarify what I spotted over coms, but trying to give directions or even describe location can be frustrating. Especially if you have people that don't know which way is North or what certain areas of a particular map look like.

I do agree that it can be tough for people that don't have comms and do have to rely on the accuracy of the spot.

Or worse...someone on your team spots YOU as an enemy target and then you get a load of munitions dropped on your head.

        Re: Spotting targets

Waiting until you see the "red name tag" before spotting usually will alleviate this problem...

Plus that way you will know it isn’t just a friendly in an enemy vehicle....something to also keep in mind before you release that TV guided or a barrage of rockets from the cobra et cetra....

        -edit

On a side note if one ever thinks the red and blue tags over a players name are not ealistic they may want to look into the military's friend versus foe identification system...While most of the system and the materials used are classified you will find that such a system really does exist...

          Re: Spotting targets

I've had problems with spotting targets before and after a lot of experimenting I found out how to spot a target at a distance.

There appears to be what I'd call a bullet drop on spotting. Next time you spot an enemy and trying to spot him and can't, aim a little higher and try again. Chances are it will.

Wait for red name, aim at center of mass, make sure no fences(or otherwise dreadful things)are in the way, and hit Q click. If it doesnt work than select a specfic name. "Enemy wheelbarrow spotted". The icon will not follow the unit, so respot it as it moves along until you can get a clear shot at it.

That doesn't really address the problem here does it? The trouble with this method is that what you're right click spotting remains static on the mini-map. As a result your teammates can't track moving objects.

Often you cleary see a tank or something else approach and you want to make your teammates aware of it by spotting it. But then instead of "Enemy tank inbound" all you get is "Enemy activity" and a blinking question mark on the map. Very annoying ... This is in most cases no problem with airplanes or helicopters.
I think the game uses some kind of "spotting ray" which is shot into the game world, and when it hits a hostile unit, that one is marked on the map. But it seems that the spotting ray often doesn't reach its target.
                  Please fix this, EA!
Use the commo rose, right-click and select enemy type; and there is something call VOIP in the game which sadly 90% people don't use

yeah ive noticed that but i always thought it was just a programmed distace that you could see and when i get closer it works again.

                      Re: Spotting targets

TBH I find that it works fine about 95% of the time...

I would be willing to bet that it does have a programmed distance since sometimes you can see a vehicle waaaaaaaaaaaaaay off in the distance but its tag wont even pop up....This makes sense, I mean just because you can see that it is something moving around you cant necessarily make out whether it is friendly or foe.....hence you hold fire until you know that it is any enemy and you can defeat it....
