constant pausing every couple seconds possible fix??

well I started to try to figure this thing out and I see my hd blinking like evry second, when Im not online or online at startup so I go into the task manager and start shutting off proceeses that I think might be causing this then I go into performance and I see the speed at which the history updates looks like the same speed as my pausing ingame, I go into view and pause the updating I go into a game and the constant pausing every second is gone??? I dont know if it was the server ( but Ive had the pausing in every server and map foir the last 2 weeks) try this out and see what you think, seems weird but Im going to try out more servers to see how it does. So far I played my first game on this clean install I did 2 weeks ago without pausing.

What are your full sytem spec? To me it sounds like you dont have enough ram so your machine is using the page file on your HDD. This problem is even worse if you have a slow hard drive.

I have 1gig of memory the new install is on a clean 20gig 7200 rpm 2mb cache WD hd my old install is on a 36gig raptor get more details of the problem and my system specs in the link.

What are your full sytem spec? To me it sounds like you dont have enough ram so your machine is using the page file on your HDD. This problem is even worse if you have a slow hard drive.

my machine should not be using the page file even when just sitting on the desktop which is whats happening on the new install, every second the hd blinks and it corresponds with the constant pausing in BF2 so Im thinking get rid of the constant hd access will get rid of the pausing, please read the old thread to get the full idea of whats happening.

maybe the server you joined has a high packet loss. it can also cause the short intermittent pauses you seem to be experiencing.

I tried different servers and I already did the pb_sleep 500 to no avail. Im starting to believe its that I dont have enough memory, I turned off the page file on both hd's and the game shuts down and kicks me to the desktop turning the pagefile back on I get a good game on the raptor but a stuttering game on the 7200 rpm drive.

I think that not having enough memory but having the 10,000 rpm 8mb cache raptor makes up for it and the game can run smooth but on a 7200rpm 2mb cache hd the game is to overpowering and hence the stuttering.

The only solution I see is either get more memory or another 36gig raptor and do a clean install in raid 0 for even faster access either way it will cost about the same.
