PunkBuster error, tried updating....

I've updated, and it still doesn't work? Maybe I'm just putting the files in the wrong spots *then again, I've put every file in every folder that i've gotten to download as an "update"*

That's the error. I'm sure someone is going to tell me the quick answer, and I'm going to feel like a douche bag. But help is appreciated. I've spent 45 minutes trying to fix this.

That is what I used in the first place, it downloaded some PB files, and put them on my desktop. I put those files in every PB folder I knew of. None of those files was overwriting any other files, so I'm not sure...I'll try again though.

Well, I ran the file, it said that all files were updated, etc etc...and I joined a server, and within the 10 seconds, the error was up, and the error, "The connection to the server was lost." came up. Thanks for the help though. Should I just reinstall?

Download the PBsetup.exe file and put it ina folder. Run it and install it, it should install to the same folder. Next load up pbsetup, say you have bf2 as a game, then do check for updates a couple of times to check you have all the updates.

I've done that, and it just throws some files next to the EXE, not sure where to put them in the folders...anyway, after reinstall, and running setup.exe again, this is the messages that come up in console right before it kicks me...

Ok dont flame me if if you already know this , i will go into more detail to remove any confusion.

This is what I do.

Download PBsetup.exe, Create a folder (in your EA Games folder) and name it PB or punkbuster (whatever). Install the PBsetup into that folder. There sould now be a couple of icons and other files in there. Run the PB program in there and I will bring up a box, in that you have to specify what games that use PunkBuster and what ones you want to update.After that hit update and it should automatically update PB for you.

No dont do that, as I said you have to make a new folder. But do this outside of the main BF2 folder.

Outside my main BF2 folder is a folder that houses the rest of my games :P

I'll try your idea

Tried the idea, put the folder outside the BF2 folder, and now for some reason, I get the "Connection has been lost to server" error right when I try to join the server.

PBSetup should be downloaded directly into the folder or moved into the folder after downloading to the desktop but before running PBSetup for the first time. The easiest way to create a folder is to "right click" on the desktop and choose New|Folder from the pop-up menu and then type in a folder name such as PBSetup and press the Enter key. "

nonono I didn't touch the original PB folder. I did what you said, made a brand new folder outside of BF2 folder. Then I put PBsetup in there, ran it, and it made all it's files inside that file. I ran BF2, and it won't let me join a server now. Do I move those files inside the newly created folder somewhere? I've done the manual installing of updates, and that didn't work either. I'ms o confused.

I've turned my router off, ran that PBsetup.exe again, and I'm going to see if that helps anything...

I was in for about 45 seconds without getting kicked. I did still have a few PB error messages though..so not sure if I woulda stayed for a bit...

I do not see an error.

All you are seeing there is the PB info as the server and your game is communicating with each other.

This pic in the post above, shows:

1st line = that the server is running PB and that the server kicks for all PB violations.

2nd line = Your PB GUID, this shows that you have authenticated with the PB server with the and your player assinged "Globally Unique IDentifier"

3rd line = Receiving PB info from the server (server version 1.241, client version 1.259)

So, no error there. No reason for a PB kick so far. Did you get a PB kick error box?

The picture that you posted a few posts later shows a local game running with PB running. This ss shows some additional information such as:

"Master Query Sent" - is your local server sending a PB Server request to the PB backend

"Received Master Security Information" - shows response from PB backend

The rest is just the player GUID, PB info, and no client game CVAR violations with the client environment.

So no where in the pics that you have posted, have I seen an error.

The "connection to server was lost" could be caused by anything causing you to lose your connection to the server (client, router, internet, etc) and not just PB.

If you are getting kicked for any reason with PB, you would get a PB error box popup.

Do you lose connection to every server you try to connect to or just one specific server?

I'm having the same problem as you. No sooner then 10 seconds go by, and I get kicked out to the menu saying "Your connection to the server has been lost" This is frustrating the hell out of me. I've been playing for a few months without having these problems.

So far, I have tried uninstalling, and Re-installing the game, and the 1.3 patch. I also tried updating punkbuster, by doing all that was outlined above, and IT STILL DIDNT WORK for me. This is complete BS, I dont run a router of any sort (direct connection to modem), have turned off all my firewalls, and any other programs that could be blocking the game from running properly. I pay $100 bucks for this "PREMIUM" connection for my Cable service. All the other games I play like Halo, and COD2 are running just fine.

I check teamspeak that my clan runs, and under the GET CONNECTION INFO tab, it shows that I have no packet loss. Im clueless, and hope someone can help.

My Computer specs are as follows

CPU: AMD FX60
Video Card: XFX XXX 7950
MOBO: MSI K8n Diamond Plus
RAM: 4 gigs of Corsair TWIN X Ram with heat spreaders
HD: 2x 150 gig Western Digital Raptors 10,000 RPM in zero raid

With all the newest drivers updated. As you can see, I have a top of the line system, and this game wont run for me. WHAT A POS.

Also, I have tried joining over 100 servers to no avail. Even servers that arent running PB kick me out. WTF? Like I said, the game was running fine for me up until Thursday 7/27. Although I did get the occasional CTD like everyone else.

OK, well, It's official. I was incorrect in assuming it was punkbuster. I turned off my firewall, *Nvideo firewall, came with my Nforce MOBO..* and it worked fine. Odd..

Well folks, that's my fix...hope it works for you.
