Server providers are required to patch, I do not know what the tiume frame involved is though. SOmeone said at some point "2 weeks from patch release date", not sure if that was ever true or if it was modified.
The only "Original BF2" you can play is demo. Try install the demo and search that. Gulf of Oman 24/7 forever!
