    Squad leader rotation

    What about this:

    1. If Squad leader die..
    2. ..the next alive squad member becomes a squad leader, automaticaly
    3. ..the dead squad leader become a regular squad member, automaticaly
    4. ..when the dead ex-squad leader spawns - he becomes a sq. leader again, automaticaly

The point is: the squad keeps the position on the map if even only one squad member is alive. Sounds fair to me.

Don't know.. it just popped out of my mind just like that...

    Re: Squad leader rotation

I suppose that could work. Could be balance issues though, with a full squad working together it could be one immortal squad rolling across the battlefield. But I suppose if opposing squads don't work together to counter that, too bad for them.

Most of the time I have enough problems with the normal rotation of people dropping out. I'm busy in the middle of a long fire fight and people start complaining I'm doing a piss poor job of leading- that's when I find out I became a SL. Then I have to resign if I don't have time or want to bother with it. Sometimes I just want to be a grunt following orders.

Yes Squad Cycling would great to get back. Squad hopping is stupid, but Squad Cycling is genius. ITs a great tactic imo and it should be put back. Maybe an option to appoint a new squad leader would work better?

They changed squad hopping for a reason...this would give back every advantage that squad hopping had.

It would make no sense for DICE to do this.

Yippie, invincible squads.... good on paper, has massive warning signs in implemation. This would bassically be squad hopping, only within the same squad.

Ive played on some teams that use a similar tactic anyways. If Im SL and I die, I leave while Im waiting to respawn, then join up after Im back. Its not quite as effective, but it still helps.

                    Re: Squad leader rotation

You all forget that we used to have squad hopping and squad cycling in the game at the same time and it was not an issue at all
Sure it was an issue in the more lame clan matches but cares about those? If they wanted to address that, all that had to be done is prevent you from spawning on a squad leader if you suicided - simple as that

It was a bizarre change to make - the timing, reasoning and support for it just didnt hold much water

No! Death in the game should have its consequences. Caution, tactics, strategy and thinking BACK to BF2.

                        Re: Squad leader rotation

Actually, this would work very nicely if you kept in place the prohibition of the now dead squadleader from re-spawning onto the new squadleader.

If I am SL and I get killed, the SL position rolls to the next man in line (criteria could be time in squad or rank). The squad is not penalized because a dead SL can not request/spot/order BUT I as former SL still remain in the squad, but am forced to re-spawn at the closest friendly held flag and make my way back to the squad. Once I have incurred my "death penalty" and am just a regular member of the squad, I could then spawn on the SL like normal until I wind up SL again.

No immortal squad, you maintain the integrety of the squad and you don't handicap that squad because of the first SL's death. In the real world, the next man in line WOULD step up and assume SL duties.

                        I like the idea.

Assuming you play with people youve ALWAYS played with, so you know who is capable of doing what. However, I wouldnt like some random bloke take the SQLs position.

I am with chris. . .if I am playing with my friends, I would like this. However, if some schmoe sniper joined my sqaud, ran off and just sat in a worthless place the whole round and I lost SL to him, it would suck.

True, but you can get a bad SL removed. And it is far easier than getting a bad commander removed.
