Does every mod have to share the same key config?

I recently purchased Special Forces, and tried to set my extra mouse buttons normally used for external cameras to equip the gas mask and night vision. The problem is that the same key settings are carried over to vanilla BF2. They're also carried over to the Allied Intent and Battleracer mods I've got installed. Is there a way to have separate configs for each mod? If not, is DICE aware of this? If so, do they give a ****?

Control configs are stored under your account profile in My Documents. I don't know of any way to have separate configs for different mods besides using different accounts for each mod.

there is a way to do this
      save your desired key mappings
      then exit game, go into
      C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0005
(ie use the correct final folder number)
      make a copy of profile.con (eg profile.bf2.con)
      then go back into game
edit controls for SF, exit game, go back into same folder
now make another copy of profile.con (eg profile.sf.con)
now make a copy of BOTH of your new files (as back ups)
now, before each time you play, eg sf
delete the existing profile.con and rename your desired profile.xx.con
      into profile.con :)

Thanks, but this is a very sub-optimal solution. When the popular mods come out, this is going to be a big issue.

you could use a batch file to automate it.
Batch one deletes current profile.con and copies your profile1.con in as profile.con and then starts the game with the mod (or, vanilla) that you want to play.
Batch two does the same with profile2.con and the mod (or, SF) that it's used for.
          repeat as necessary.

Since 3rd-party mods aren't ranked and even if they support a stat system they presumably won't be combined between mods there's no real reason not to use separate accounts for each mod. Just add a suffix to your primary nickname for each mod. Only for SF and the boosters is this not a good solution since they are ranked. For them the only simple workaround is swapping the controls.con file yourself.
