    Server Denies 3rd Person View

I joined a server last night that did not allow me to switch the camera to the 3rd person view in any vehicle. I asked what was going on and was told that the server did not allow it. Is such a queer setting against ROE?

At the least the administrators such let us know about this server setting in the message we read when joining. I certainly would not have joined if I knew.

What's "queer" about not allowing 3rd person?

Of course writing responses is a better use of your life. :p I can be sarcastic, too.

Last night was the first time I encountered a server with this setting. It is odd.

absolutly nothing wrong with it, they didnt put the option to turn it off in bf2cc for nothing. its usualy done to tame the jehads and tank whores. anyone with a clue will soon realize you get much better periferal veiw from the 1st person veiw anyway.

Well, it wouldn't matter to me WHAT camera angle they "disallowed" When in an attack heli, or any other heli for that matter, make the CTRL key your friend...you'd be surprised at the advantage you get.

That's a completely stupid rule, IMO. I've never heard of such a thing nor did I know it was an option that could be turned on or off. Good to know.

I agree that I would avoid that server (unless I wanted to rack up my C4 kills).

Re: Server Denies 3rd Person View

It's off on our server because we don't think it is either realistic or fair. It's not realistic in that it's an FPS, not a TPS. Our contention is we would probably turn it on if they enabled birdseye views for infantry too.

How many more advantages do the vehicles need? So, a tank/apc can have a third person view to see a spec ops/engineer sneak up and plant c4/mines and that is fair? They can see players hiding around a corner, behind low walls, on the roof of low buildings, etc. A plane can use the views to see what's tailing it and essentially counter by watching the chase plane? Choppers can see tanks sneaking up from behind, etc......

Regardless, it takes more skill to operate armor, planes and choppers without the aid of third person views. It's funny to watch someone who depends on the additional views and can't deal with the change. Their feeling of invincibility evaporates... they are more vulnerable... perhaps a touch of balance has been restored. You can tell as the chat messages deteriorate from, "help, I can't change views", "what's wrong with my computer?", "I can't play without the views", to finally, "this blows I am out of here".

BTW, this comes from a plane/armor/chopper whore.

Feel free to continue the debate.

I think that it's a good idea...to help realism and to "tame the whores"...but the admins should at least have a scrolling message or the like about it. I also think...I don't know, to me it feels like they are messing with the game files.

It's an option just like turning FF off/on for mines and claymores, showing rank, allowing unlocks etc.

Its off on our top ranked server to increase vehicle difficulty. No reason they should get magic satellite views when the infantry rarely do.

What was the name of the server?

                            I wouldn't mind playing there.

I don't know why more admins don't do use this option.

For god's sake I can't even opt out of a stupid first person view of a gun. Useless animations if you ask me. But yet a pilot can have multiple views and even a magic instant replay of a fly by.

I don't think it's even a realism issues, it's just a leveling of the playing feild.

I think thats great. I wish that was the norm.

I only use outside view for driving cars and only because its an obvious advantage; I would love to drive the inside view.
