Come and convince CEVO (BF2 league for BIG $$)

CEVO (http://www.cevolved.com/) a leage well know in counter-strike, is considering having BF2 as one of their subleages.

Currently, they offer prize money goes as following:

CS 1.6 = $26,000 Pot
CS Source = $5000
COD 2 = $5000

just imagine how high the pot would go up with a large BF2 community!

As you can see, it is quite inactive as not many people know about the site. Please go and post something positive about the validity of BF2 competitive gaming, and the popularity of the game. (read the current threads) Please make informative posts.

Here is what CEVO is most concerned with
"There's nothing that I can say here that can be stated as fact, so take this based off of CEVO standards and my opinion.
Battlefield 2 is not the type of spectator friendly game that people want to watch, and the community in comparison to Counter-Strike or even Call of Duty 2 is not comparable. We have to research a lot of various aspects towards the games before we decide which to choose. There are many other "hopeful" games out there, that may be high caliber games, but unless a community rises and shows us a pure reason why, then we have no motivation or reasoning to jump on the bandwagon, so to speak."

I think they have a point with not wanting to pick up BF2 as a sub-league.
It's fairly late in the game to be adding it.
They're right in that BF2 isn't very spectator friendly.
The core game play is focused more on large scale battles that are very hard to commentary/vid-cast.
There are some leagues that have already eaten up most of the serious comp-player base.

They'd prolly be better off waiting to see what happens with BF2142 and picking that up if it's got better competition support.

Very true. What about 8v8 or even 5v5 they do use the smallest maps and are easy to watch. I watch TWL demos all the time for 8v8, and with some creative camera work it might be fun?

Yeah, those are a hoot and I do watch 'em from time to time.

The problem remains that BF2 is geared towards larger maps tho. I consider 8vs8 to be able the smallest functional mode, but even then it generally doesn't *feel* right to me. Kinda like playing Chess with only 4 pieces per side. That's just personal opinion, tho.

What BF2 really needs is more built in support for match boardcasting. BF2TV was supposed to be an included feature, but I'm guessing that the priority was knocked down due to a general lack of interest on the comp side (there really isn't nearly as much competitive gameplay in BF2 as there are in some other games).

Well i dont know what you guys are talking about, but my thread is directed stricktly towards 8v8 play, and i dont understand what you mean by it being too late, CEVO added CS 1.6 in its 11th season, which is about 4 years after the games release..

I'm not down on the whole competitive BF2 thing

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but I'm just trying to look at this from the company's point of view.

Although I'm a big fan of BF2 and it's community, I don't think I'd want to run a new league at this point either.

well to be honest, and dont take this the wrong way, it sounds like you dont know much about competitive BF2. the thread is directed to any clans and people who are looking to continue playing BF2 competitivly, so i respect your oppinion of the game, but there are many who would strongly disagree with what you are trying to say.

So several hundred active competitive teams playing bf2 isn't enough interest?

CAL finals filling up all of TsN's video casting servers doesn't indicate any interest in the competitive side of bf2?

BF2 World Tournament finals being one of the most downloaded files on gotfrag (3000+) indicates a lack of interest?

$20,000 BF2 lan tournament that will be broadcast on DirecTV doesn't indicate any interest?

Somehow I must be confused and none of those things I listed indicate interest in bf2 what so ever.

Ok, ok, Chad, I'm not gonna argue those points with ya.
All I ment is I can see the business side of things and why a company wouldn't want to get into a new BF2 comp league. If you (or anyone else) wants to make a case for it being worthwhile, go for it. Follow the OP's link and make some good points. If you really want to press for it, think about it from the business side and harp on ways that this new league would be a good business venture. Remember, what they are most interested in is turning a buck. How does this new league help 'em to do that?

I completely understand your point wargimp. I'm not some 12 yr old kid who doesn't understand basic economics. But if someone is willing to drop $30k for prizes and fly teams from NA and Europe for a LAN, happened just a couple weeks ago, then I don't see why BF2 wouldn't be an option for CEVO.

T'was my point in a nutshell.
The game was designed from the ground up as a Pubber's game with little thought involved on how to play to the comp crowd. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, per say... I prefer pubbing myself 'cause past history with competitive gaming really robbed the fun outta previous games for me and with everything I have going on in real life these days, I simply can't commit to *serious* gaming.

It's easy to forget that less than 10% of gamers will ever play in a league or ladder match. Really, the vast majority of gamers are pubbers. This is why design desissions on the game are usually pub focused. As a game designer, which group is more important to you? The 9 guys who will never play in a league, but are likely to buy 3 or 4 more of your games within the year, or the one hardcore guy that isn't likely to play anything else for a year but will scream bloody murder over any design change that impacts what he sees as his game?

Still, league play is an aspect that shows vitality in the player base and shouldn't be ignored either. I suspect that Dice is trying to play to that side of things with the forthcoming IO game type.

As I said, if you strongly feel that these guys really should be running a BF2 league, go tell 'em. I've you've read all this junk I've tossed out and still believe it's viable, you should be able to convince 'em.
