  • hmmm . . .just learned something new - thought I'd share

I am a BIG user of maps. mini-maps, commander comms, etc
and of course ALWAYS spend tons of time zoomed in when playing commander
and often use the WASD keys to follow enemy tanks, etc

one thing I have always NOT liked about the zoom on private map
    (ie not commander map)
is that the Zoom always zooms on ME - not where the action is
and the WASD keys do not move the map center
    they move ME
BUT - you CAN move the map using the mouse cursor!!
have not used it enough to measure it benefits
but I am sure it might be helpful on times for squad leaders to 'preview' an area before rushing in
sorry if this is common knowledge - but I first saw it last night after 1200 hours of play

Unless there is a UAV or another teammate has spotted something in that area you're zoomed into, it doesn't help much. It does, however, show the locations of available vehicles... (which I suppose could be used in such a way to know whether or not to expect an enemy tank to be waiting for you over by the hotel on Oman)

Actually I use this all the time as squad leader. Gotta make sure those supplies land somewhere useful (not in the water).

Well, in that case, yes it's useful. But if you're trying to scout out an area, it doesn't show you enemy troops if they have not been spotted.
