Loading high settings when not set that way

I have this extremely annoying problem in bf2 where my game will just randomly load high settings when going into a map. Even if i have my settings on low, and i check to make sure, it will still load the 'phantom high settings'. My computer cannot handle high settings and i do not want them!!! Where does it get it from???

I have no way of replicating this bug intentionally. Nobody seems to have it (can i be possibly the only unlucky bastard to get it???) and not a single person knows why it happens.

Could it *possibly* be when i clear my cache and logocache folders?

that happend to me once, the settings were higher than i normally of them.

i had actually put up my settings higher on need for speed most wanted that same day...maybe that had something to do with it? but that doesnt seem right.

Nope, only one account on the same computer. Sometimes, it will load the map a portion of the way, then randomly say 'optimizin shaders' and begin loading all high settings. It is soooooo random and usually it takes forever to get in if i don't spend 3 minutes at the unloading resources screen.

Usually it happens at 15%, 47% or 62%.

solve it by going to video>and click apply again in bf2

Or you could make the video.con file set to read-only in your profile folder.

I have had a similar problem in the past with BF2 where it would not keep my settings even after hitting the apply button.

Sometimes it happens also if you logout (to change prefix, for example) and log back in with the same account.

we (son and I ) get ramdom re-sets of our video files as well
                  usually - it Add shadows!
then next morning - shadows are gone - how lame can EA/Dice code be?
                  hmmm
making file read only - good idea - will try that !

Wow, im glad that i'm not the only one falling victim to Dice's sh!tty code... I will do what is mentioned above.

DeadCRAP, that seems to fix it, but is extremely annoying and shouldn't have to happen.

Re: Loading high settings when not set that way

Yup, this has happened to me repeatedly since release. If I notice it happening I just Alt-F4, delete my BF2 graphics cache (and there are always two folders, one for my usual settings and one for the new high settings), and restart BF2.

No clue what causes it. At first I thought that servers could impose some sort of "minimal required settings" but obviously that isn't true.

This just started happening with me.
I have an older system and have everything on low ....mainly to get in game as early as possible, and of course for better frame rate.
However lately, i'd say within the last 2 weeks perhaps a bit longer, when the game loads....it loads everything on high......and welp, my system is like...
                          HELPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!
I can still play its just annoying. And rather then log out and change and take another 20 minute tour of BF..i just stick my ground.

glad to see im not the only one that expiriences this. i wouldnt mind the higher settings, but it makes it impossible to see people in construction site on sharqi/oman, in the Tv station on sharqi etc.

I still can't get rid of it!! Stupid EA, just one more thing to screw up and make it harder to play a freakin computer game,
