Tips to become a better player?

I seem to kinda suck at BF2... I rarely get above a 1 KDR unless I'm in some sort of vehicle. I've got a good SPM but only because I revive anything that was moving. Yet somehow there's always that one person who you would label as "OMG MEDIC WHORE" until he also goes like 26-5 as infantry. How can I improve my game? Pleaes be detailed... don't say 'play against good players'... give me a server or two with good players. Don't suggest some sort of technique without saying how to do it please. Basically I'd like to be better as an all-around player, being skilled in practically all fields of the game (infantry, planes, choppers, tanks).

I have seen some threads like this for awhile. Do a search and you will find several lengthy ones of value.

        1) play with your mouse sensitivity. See if you can get it to a good level.

        2) consider your system performance. you might not know it, but your system sometimes can old you back.

        3) start watching videos of people playing, you can learn a lot by watching people move around corners, when they change ammo clips, how they choose their targets, when they jump, how quickly they fire their weapon (burst timing).

          practice x1000

like any game, there is a learning curve, which is different from person to person. it just takes some time to really learn the game mechanics, like your movements and the difference between weapons and strengths and weakenesses of weapons and vehicles. you will get the hang of things, and start picking up your own little tactics. also, you can learn from others, join squads and hopefully you will get a good one that works together. i actually learned a lot from stumbling across some good squads (oh how rare that is).

            1) Play a medic

            2) Pick a gun and stick with it. Play nothing but that particular gun and kit and when I say playing NOTHING but that kit I mean it (don't switch to AT or sniper or any of that other crap even for a short time). I recommend the G36E not only because it's a kick *** gun but unlike the AK-101 you can use it on both MEC China and U.S. teams. Stick with the triple shot on the G36E unless you're shotting at a target at most extreme ranges.

            3) Remap your keys! I can't stress that enough. The default key mappings suck. Pay particular attention to the locations of your most important weapons keys (rifile, paddles, med pack), prone and and jump. To give you an idea of what a good keymap looks like try mine out http://rapidshare.de/files/26906793/Controls.con.html - Simply download it and stick it in your profile folder and overwrite your current currents.con (make sure you back it up). After changing your key config you're going to feel a little stale and your performance might even go down a bit but once you get familar with your key config you'll do better.

And I'd say the most important thing to remember the following:

            4) When you get in to a firefight don't panic. Some people get all hyped up when they get in a fire fight but that hurts your performance. Approach each gun battle in a logical fashion and don't let your excitement get the best of you. I almost always start a gun battle with a jump straight in to a prone and depending on the range pull up my ironsight or not. Take a second to aim as best you can for the torso, fire... give a fraction of a second to drop the recoil and fire again. If they're closer obvious you'll want to go balls to the wall but you get the picture.

            5) When you're a medic if you get injured in a fire fight quickly switch to your medic pack and throw one down at your feet and switch back to the rifle (this is where having a nice control setup really helps). Don't ever stop jumping, strafing or moving during this process.

            6) Remember that position in this game is everything. Try your best to make sure you're in an advantageous position. One example would be hanging tight up along the edge of a building or fence so you can use it as cover.

            7) Monitor your FPS and if it drops below 60 at any times either drop your video settings to compensate or upgrade your hardware. High stable FPS is very important for infantry combat (for anything really but especially up close infantry combat). Dynamic shadows are the best thing to turn off as I find those things are not only a huge performance hug but look kind of ugly when they pop up outta nowhere within viewable ranges.

Those are the most important things I can think off the top of my head. Don't forget practice makes perfect and that's always going to be required. Rome wasn't built in a day and I didn't become an uber medic over night.

You know that could be the most important thing you hear. Ya it takes some of the adrenaline out of playing but when you are calm, you are quicker at identifying your targets. I saw a dramatic change in my game when I just sat back and said WTFever. My game did a complete turn around. If you look at my stats, it is completely visable. bf2s.com

Re: Tips to become a better player?

This thread on the Australian Gamearena servers has a lot of good information.

                  My contribution?

                  1. Never go sniper.

To play sniper requires a great deal of skill in order to actually help win a map in BF2. Only by learning how to play inf and medic will you ever learn what's necessary in order to get good at BF2. If you are in a good squad, you will get better, and snipers are just about useless in a squad. If one spawns on me in game, I tell them to to ditch the sniper kit, or they get kicked from the squad. It's that simple.

The team with the most amount of snipers ALWAYS LOSES!

                  2. Always keep going forward.

You don't regularly get shot in the back if you keep going forward. If you cap a flag, and you are a new player, NEVER wait around! It takes a lot of skill, a lot of knowledge of the flag-zones, and a lot of practice, in order to defend in BF2. If you are new, you are always going to struggle in the intense fire-fights. Best to pick the next flag that you want to head to, and if there's no form of transport, start running. You're therefore more likely to run into people heading from that flag, and it's always better to run into someone in front of you, than behind you.

                  3. Don't try to get better by using lame tactics.

Don't try to learn some of the lame tactics that have been suggested here (ref:gamearena thread about learning how to prone-jump). The fact is, the people who recommend them are experts on lame-ness, and they're always going to have more skill at being lame than you will. The only thing that happens, is you end up being a 'lame noob', and because you can't change your name in BF2, everyone remembers who you are.

Re: Tips to become a better player?

Stay with your team. Don't play superman. At least have two or three guys around before moving forward. When I started playing, I always charged into the frontlines alone and thought my teammates were behind me.. I kept getting surrounded and eventually, killed.

Avoid the flat wide open areas unless you're in a vehicle. You're a real easy target, especially for snipers. Stay near buildings, near trees, on hilly terrain, and behind cover. Dash when you traverse open areas.

Know your gun. This often requires specialization in a single kit, like one guy said. You want to find a weapon type that suits you so you can be good with it.

If you're a medic, don't run around with the shock paddles unless you are really close to the wounded soldier. You might just get shot while you're dashing your way toward the body. Also, someone probably killed him and is probably hiding behind that corner ready to kill the next medic that is trying to revive him. So, just be cautious.

Re: Tips to become a better player?

With the above tips I would say this:

Take flags in a strategic order. I say this because a lot of people go straight to the first flag instead of detouring to flags that have a lot more worth to the enemy. For example, look at karkand. How many times have you seen a circle jerk at hotel and mec side wins? Well, when I'm with a proficient squad we always take where the tank/apc spawns (depending on map size) and we go from there. You have to look at what benefits the enemy by them having that flag. Another example would be on Wake, take the airfield first or a side flag with good access to the airfield because when china has the airfield = usually a victory.

Think about it and be smart about which flags you take.

hes not entirely wrong. the 21st century warfare tournament had a rule in one of their armies that no one can play sniper since it doesnt really add much to the combat, and sure snipers can kill alot, but they can't assault which is key to vicotry. if ur looking for kills, dont play sniper because of all the frustration and guessing on how mcuh to lead a target

and tips for a newbie...jack up the sensitivity in land vehicles so when ur in an apc or tank, the turret will move as fast as how u move ur normal rifle as infantry, itll be easier to pick off targets and ur also use to the sensitivity so itll be easier

for close quarter combat, if ur sortof in the open and theres a guy pretty near u, circle strafe where u sortof run in a circle around him while shooting him

if ur in a vehicle/tank, try to keep moving as much as possible

when u see someone and its like a 1 on 1 and u cant circle strafe, fire a few shots and hten go prone and keep firing. with cqc, u can hold down ur trigger depending on how far u r. i find that the m4a1 and hte g36c are pretty good at staying accurate while holding down the trigger. the l85a1 is a bit jumpy on recoil, but if ur close enuff, hold down that trigger

1.Nothing more important than knowing a map well

                              2.Always have a plan

4.find servers with nice ping(I always get killed because of high ping)

5.know how to use your main weapon well !!

6.watch how other good players play ,learn from them(join their squad and watch!)

                              that's about it

Planewhore has given some great tips too ,maybe i'll post more if I got more time
