    Re: Encourage forgiveness

I usually forgive unless it was a very obvious or repeated TK.

One way to encourage forgiveness - or discourage punishment - would be to impose additional loss of points for those who punish more than they forgive, if they themselves are punished.

The way it is now, there really is no incentive to forgive. It's a WAR game and you want to take out your anger on anyone you can, even teammates, and what's a better way to do that than to punish the mo-fo and take away 4 points from them. So there really is no point in forgiving, unless of course, your mercifulness is acknowledged, congratulated and cheered.
You DO NOT lose points when you are punished.

      I repeat.

YOU DO NOT LOSE POINTS WHEN YOU ARE PUNISHED. You lose points for the teamkill.

The punish system is only to get tk griefers kicked. So, unless you are getting kicked a lot from servers for TKs, then you should have no complaint about the system.

I swear, this is the biggest complaint about nothing that plagues this game. I hear people whine all the time "You punished me for THAT?!?!?! It's your own damn fault!!" (I know, I did it myself). But then I realized that I have only been kicked for TK punishes ONCE and that was pre 1.2 and I dropped an arty and some idiot SL drove his entire squad into my arty and I got 4 tks, all punishes, and I was kicked.

Are you sure? I have accidentally killed folks many times (usually after they walk in front of my vehicle!) but I only seem to see the negative team points if they choose to punish for it. Is there a thread on this somehwere already?

Yes, I am absolutely positive regardless of whether or not you are punish, you still lose points.

I play with my friends and we accidentally kill each other from time to time. I know for sure that they aren't punishing me yet I will always lose points anyway.

well, people are protective of their reputation in general. most peeps will not be happy to see 'you have been punished' for a tk that was accidental. it jus looks bad. never mind that it already cost him -4.

They don't track teamkill forgives and punishes past the end of a round, as far as I know, so there is no reputation to be hurt.

On top of that, anyone who has played this game for more than 2 hours knows that people mindlessly punish for TKs and wouldn't take seriously the number of punishes one has against him.

You are really stretching for a reason to be mad that people punish you.

Please, TK Punishes don't affect your score.

I used to forgive ALL my teamkills, including made on purpose. I think NOW I forgive 75% of my TK's.

I think simply a section on stats showing the ratio of punished/forgiven teamkills is enough.

there should be a hand clap or a drum roll everytime you forgive =P

I encourage forgiveness by NOT reviving people who punish me for accidental TKs. I also gaurd their body for the 15 seconds to make sure noone else revives them. :)

give forgivers a free point for every 3 forgives and forgiven tk'ers get no -4....

countless times ive runover squadmembers, cos they dont press e quick enuff and get splattered, although forgiven.. i still get -4 :/

Set ff to no damage. It will eliminate tks for vehicles and the need to punnish. I know folks will cry foul on thar suggestion, but what is the bigger problem? TK for vehicles or not seeing that one bit of "realism" (friendly fire) in a game? I played DC on a server that had ff set to no damage. You didn't have people TKing for tanks or planes. It just boiled down to who got there first.

I can't believe most of you people still believe that punishing or forgiving matters one year after release.

Turning FF off COMPLETELY changes the game. I find the game becomes kind of stupid when FF is off.

I like having to be racist and say "kill whitey" or "kill darkie" (uniform colors) when I am playing.
