When I first started playing I used to try and get commander position as much as possible pretty much for the same reasons most of you listed. However now I only apply for the commander position if no one else takes it so that my team will have a commander during the round.

Being commander is by far not my first choice anymore but if have a good team being the commander can be a lot of fun. :)

I do it 4 the medalz, lol!

Basically, I command if no one else on our team volunteers. Maybe in a little bit, I will work on getting my veteran badge and some medals with commander point requirements, but I really have more fun shooting people in the face.

Re: Commanding. Why we do it.

I havent done it a lot but I think I do pretty good at it.

It's cool to take over as commander part way through a match, make a few key decisions and see the battle turn.

Dropping arty on a heavily defended flag, taking out 5-6 guys and giving my squads a chance to advance... dropping supply crates and watching the friendly armor flock to them in good locations...spotting snipers then watching a friendly soldier sneak up on the booger and stabbing him... thats a personal favorite.

            It's cool to have a field-wide impact without being called a chopper/jet/tank/apc-whore.

When you get 1 or 2 good squads following orders and sticking together combined with a commander who is pro-actively commanding and providing support and applying his assets in effective ways, the team is basically unstoppable.

I do it when nobody else wants to do it.
And when I'm tired of running and gunning around.

When you have a good team, Commanding can be a real rush. Having your teams talking to you and you calling out the enemy and helping your team get the goal.

It can be an intense experience, especially with an equally good opposing force.

But yah if you have a team that doesn't team up or ignores your advice than its just a glorified Quartermaster for Snipers and Armour with the occasional Cartilary to piss off the other team's snipers.

                      I enjoy commanding.
                      Why?

Simple. As a great man once said, "I love it when a plan comes together".

I get a huge amount of satisfaction when something I do as commander creates a shift on the field and allows my boys to pull off a coup.

First UAV (infantry fighing), second spotting enemies (sniping, commander hunting), third drop supply crate next to my tank (self explonary).

                        and also:

                        "Do as ordered soldier!!"
"My graanmda could do better!"

I command if I want a break for fire-fights and still want to get points. I will also command if our team is always winning and I want points!

I go CO either cuz we don't have a commander, the one we have is pathetic, or if I just don't feel like frontline action. Also, its nice to be able to cartillary tanks and snipers.

Re: Commanding. Why we do it.

Because I hate being snuck up on when I have a sh*tty commander, while the other team has a good one.

Also, nothing is more satisfying then following an enemy unit on a map that is hard to get a flag on (Like USMC on a Big Karkand, or USMC on Wake), then dropping artillery on him, laughing.

Also, Squads cap flags. Commanders win rounds. (Thats my throwback to defense wins championships).

On a related topic, I was just wondering how do you get points as commander? I mean I think it's from like giving a supply crate when its requested and stuff like that but what else?
