A question about JoyStick and Throttle system

I used to be a hard core flight simmer. But since 2 years ago, I gave up those games. It has been a while since I flew last. Now that BF2 specially AF offer fighter and choppers, I would like to purchase a good set of JS and Throttle system. I saw CH_Products in one of the retailers down town today. I have a Asus P5P800 SE motherboard with USB controller and high speed USB controller in the BIOS. I dont know much about the later.

If I get one of those CH products, I am pretty sure they are the USB version one of these days. But would they work in BF2? So my question is would BF2 recognise USB joystick systems?

I'm much in the same boat as u on this...

Just get a cheap usb joystick with a built in throttle for Bf2 i reckon. Not enough to gain with an expensive set up. Lots a hot pilots play with the mouse suprisingly. I use a simple logitech stick with rudder and throttle and it sees me through....

The first new flight sim in a while is due out by christmas..Storm of War Battle of Brittian, by maddox games, makers of the great il2 series.

great deal - saitek st2900 pro = $20 walmart
many use logitech 3d pro (about $40??)
and the most fancy = $115 Saitek x52

none make you fly better :P
all better than nothing for jets
use mouse and KB for helo

Throttle response in BF2 is numb, and not that fast. Its sad, and it eliminates the throttle use from most of the dogfigting. Although reduction and whatnot is useful, its response is slow, and this the effectiveness isnt that apparent. I fly at 90% throttle myself.

The most popular joystick among BF2 players seems to be Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. Im using one myself. Apart from being very stiff, and having a problem with too sensitive twist handle, its great. Cyborg Evo I believe comes close second in popularity.

Many would suggest X52 HOTAS aswell.

Best bang for the buck? Logitech and Saitek Cyborg Evo I mentioned will do it just fine.

Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, I saw this one in the shop. It reminds me of MS Sidewinder many many years ago, the stick can be twisted to render rudder actions. Cool! But I like CH's Fighter Stick. It has so many buttons just on the stick alone. Good for BF2 as well as my beloved flight sim like IL2, F/A-18 and Falcon 4 as well as Strike Fighter/Project -1.

I wonder, talking about flight sims, why there are so less modern flight sims one of these days? They are all going back to WWII flight sims.

The airspace is so small even tiny in a 16 player map, as far as BF2 goes. I wonder if a full set of stick + throttle is necessary.

I had problems with the sensitive twist as well, but you can setup a larger deadzone for it in the profiler software. It doesn't show up in the calibration screen, which is kind of naff, but in BF2 it does apply and makes it possible to hold the stick without swerving to one side constantly.

Playing BF2 there's no need to go buying a HOTAS setup. A simple twist grip joystick like the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro is ideal, and very cheap. It is a little too sensitive for the helos, but as the poster above as mentioned, increasing the deadzone solves this.

For flight sims, I'd recommend a Saitek X52 FCS, and for more realistic control, Saitek now sell rudder pedals which are cheaper than the competition and apparently work very well.

I have the Saitek x52. I'm happy with it. Course I use only a 1/4th of the offered buttons but it does come much more useful with the Flight Sims.

It does have this button under a hatch that I really wish was linked to an A-bomb strapped to the bottom of my jet sometimes.

I use a MS sidewinder, brought it ages ago for flight sims but it works perfectly for BF2

i hate saitek - had three sticks and all broke. I use a logitech extreme 3d pro. Good price plus twist technology (almost required for precise heli manuevering).

i recently got myself this joystick ,
Trust GM-2500 usb joystick.

note that i was a terrible chopper pilot previously :) and never flew jets,
(just couldn't get used to keyboard)

i find it works great with with both chopper and plane.
the twist grip is a tad stiff(imo thats good for small movments)

its very resposive when rolling ect.

been learning alot on singleplayer/coop with custom maps and now i can acctually hover the dam helo :)

not sure if its the same on other joysticks but on this one if i set the throttle to 34% (not 1%higer or lower) it will hover and not move a inch then i can let go of the joystick go and make a cup of tea and come back and me buddys has scored lots of kills.

didn't have to change and deadzone or sensitivity (just the controls) and fly out the box so to speak.

oh and it was cheap.
